Warning: hyphenated name question (Something-Joy)

MrsJellybye · 04/11/2012 18:13

Title says it all, really. I know the views on hyphenated names but I'm still thinking about one. Blush

I'm wondering about something I could hyphenate with Joy, a family name.

Or should I just not go there?

I know a Maria Joy! I think it's nice!

Amelia-joy?

HecatePhosphorus · 04/11/2012 18:19

do it if you like it. Fashions change and people really have got to stop letting others dictate what names or styles of names they should or shouldn't have.

yeah, I know, I'm a worthy goody unrealistic blah blah

but it's my pov and I'm sticking to it Grin

I think something beginning with A would go well with Joy. What about, erm,
Amelia-Joy
Amalie-Joy
Aelwen-Joy

Not Serena-Joy (Handmaid's tale).

Sorry, not useful.

I came on to suggest Amelia-Joy, but see it's already been done! Names with a similar feel though -

Alexa-Joy
Louisa-Joy
Sophia-Joy
Cecily-Joy
Rosa-Joy
Isabella-Joy
Lilia-Joy

Not really keen on Joy, would just use it as a middle name tbh.

I have a Claudia Joy - not hyphenated
DD1 was going to be Amelia Joy, again not hyphentaed

Both go well thoughI think

How about Ramona-Joy? I think that has a nice ring to it.

Don't go there.

You don't need the hyphen to use both names if you prefer not to.

I know a few girls that go by 'double names' and some don't have a hyphen.

They are all generally known by the full name and occasionally just the first part, hyphen or not.

Obviously down to your own personal preference.

Have fun choosing, Joy is lovely Smile

I agree that Claudia-Joy, Maria-Joy and Romona-Joy sound nice. Three syllables works well for the first name I think.

Evelyn-Joy
Juliet-Joy
Rosalind-Joy
Violet-Joy
Lillian-Joy

Oh and inspired by the current thread below, how about Josephine-Joy?

I know a Lara Joy.

OOps thanks everyone for the thoughts and suggestions- sorry I've been a bit waylaid from this thread.

I'm pleased people think 3 syllables would be ok (and I know there are some hyphen dissenters; that's ok, I've got my heart set on it though)- because I was thinking overnight of....

Genevieve-Joy

[it's the saint name for her due date]

Do-able, do you think? (that's a hyphen pun, sorry)

I love the name Gemvieve, but don't think it works as a hyphenated name.

Sorry, but where I live hyphenated names don't have positive connotations.

Oh, and my other thought is Mirabel-Joy

I know this will be too flouncy for some, but I like flouncy Blush

I wanted Mirabel for DD1 but XH said no and this coming DD2 is even more of a miracle/marvel than DD1 was....

Oh I love Ramona-Joy! Ramona was my no 1 choice for DD's name but DH wasn't having it.

Joy is a lovely name, I think the g-j sound is a little too much in Genevieve-Joy.

I like Ophelia-joy (but then I just love the name Opelia)

Report
MrsJellybye · 05/11/2012 14:03

Thanks honeytea- I have such a love/hate relationship with Ophelia. It was also on the list for DD1 but XH vetoed it (and this I could understand) on the "I feel yer" basis. So when I read Ophelia-Joy, I hear "I feel yer joy!". In XH's accent. Not good.

By the way, I like Elvin - I can see why some posters thought it sounded feminine, but I personally like softer boys names. If you like it, go for it (and I know I should post this on your thread, but I'm being lazy Smile)

I think the Duggars have a JoyAnna!

I don't like hyphenated names at all probably as I have one Grin have had a fair bit of teasing over the years. Leave out that little hyphen just have two names, some computer forms don't even recognise the hyphen causes loads of grief

I hadn't thought of that the "i feel yer" bit, I hope you do find a lovely name that goes well with joy :)

Thank you for the feedback on Elvin, I agree soft boys names are nice :)

I like Mirabel and Genevieve but not with Joy as a hyphen. Okay with Joy as a mn

Report
MolotovBomb · 05/11/2012 16:45

Mia-Joy would roughly translate as 'my joy'. I think that's quite nice :)
