Baby names

Has anyone given their DC a different surname to both you and DP? Advice needed.

Both DP and I have difficult surnames - one being unpronounceable and unspellable and the other being a noun which goes with very few first names. Because of this we are thinking of giving our baby another name from DPs family that we both like.

Has anyone done this or know anyone who has? Any advice/thoughts/ opinions are much appreciated as we really don't want to end up making the wrong decision. Thanks

My younger DCs have the hybrid of DH and my surnames - so Hassled-Bloggs. So technically neither of our surnames and it's never been a problem. Would it feel more comfortable if one or both of you hyphenated to the new surname - so you became Frostyears-Bloggs, say?

Hi Hassled, thanks for your reply - that's one option we're thinking about but it does feel a bit alien to be honest. Can I ask, do you use both parts of your DCs names - or rather, do other people use both parts?

Definitely both parts. And it's been adopted by school/friends etc to the extent that I now seem to be called Mrs Hassled-Bloggs rather than the Ms Hassled I did prefer to go by!
