Esther or Etta?

Me and DH have been pretty sold on Esther if it's a girl but are now considering Etta (bit less old fashioned?!). What do you think?

Also middle name would probably be Grace - so Esther Grace - work ok?

I like both but I think Etta has the edge for me. Both work with Grace.

Esther Grace, Etta Grace. Both lovely I think, but Etta's better Smile

Love both - Etta edges it for me too, but only just!

Esther, ETA is the Basque terrorist group.

Etta is much nicer than dreary Esther, IMO. It's cool, edgy, pretty without being overtly girly. Love it!

Yes, ETA is the Basque terrorist group. Etta isn't.

Dreary Esther?

It is most certainly not!

hurumph

Grin take a wild guess what I'm called...

Ah, sorry, I've no intention to offend. Esther just isn't one of my favourite names, that's all. Maybe it's because I think of Esther Rantzen (sp?) and dull nights in front of the telly when she's been on ...

Grin nah, you haven't offended. Not at all.

Love both actually. Would keep both up your sleeve and see what she looks like.

Can I throw Hester into the mix? Like that one a lot too.

Esther is gorgeous and strong. Etta is Ok but I think Esther has a much more beautiful sound.

Recently met a little toddler called Etta and realised what a beautiful name it is - would never have thought of it myself. Pretty but not too girly.

Esther - nice but we had an Esther at school who was a complete bitch not nice, and used to get called Esther the Pester.

Maybe wait and she which she looks like?

Errs by far. I personally have never liked Esther. (But I love Hecate Wink )

Etta!

I'm assuming ETA and Etta are pronounced the same, Unless it's pronounced Ee-ta (Eat Her)?

I need google

Report
kige · 29/10/2012 18:28

The terrorist group ETA has the same pronounciation as Etta and for this reason I would not use it.

Also, I would think that when asked for her name and Etta replies down the phone or whatever, a lot of people will reply with What? Pardon?

If you really like Etta why don't you call her Henrietta and use Etta as a nickname.

I dislike Esther, but love Hester. Equally love Etta and adding it to a list of potential future DD names.
