I came across this (girls) name the other day - what you you think?

I LOVE it. Quirky, pretty but also strong-sounding. Also French, so very chic :)

I love it too, and it's quite fashionable at the moment among the arty set in France, so doubly chic.

I have one! It is a Breton name. My mother is French and i was born in Brittany, though mainly she is named after a very dear friend.

wasn't that the name of the girlfriend of Joy Division's Ian Curtis? It's a gorgeous name. I also like Ines.

I like it! Met an adorable little French girl in Portgual named Anouk.

Her behaviour wasn't adorable mind! :)

Lovely name. I have a French friend called this, but she spells her name Anouck, which I prefer Smile

Love it and it is the name of the little girl in Chocolat which, incidentally, is one ofy favourite books/films :)

It's nice but I just think of Mork & Mindy, & Robin Williams doing his slapstick schlock - "Nanouk nanouk" was one of the major catchphrases.

Would it be a-nuck or a-nook?

Reminds me of 'Nanook of the North'.

Anoushka is much better if you want the same basic sound, though.

Lovely, in that category of nice, unusual names not ending in a or ie. I like Iseult too.

Thanks everyone for your replies, especially aire for the link to Anouk Aimee of La Dolce Vita fame. I can see how it might be a preferred name for hipster-type parents.

I too prefer Anouska for the same type of sound in a name. Anouk makes me think of Corey Feldman's dog in The Lost Boys (Nanuk?) It's a bit 'out there' for my tastes, but then again I'm definitely not hip enough!

I absolutely adore it and would have chosen it for my dd but for surname issues.

Also daughter in the book 'chocolat'! A lovely name but sure people will always say it in different ways which may be very annoying.
