Potential Sibling Names

I have a wee baby girl called Amelia and am looking for reviews on sibling names (for another girl) and suggestions of other names to go with Amelia. So far I have:

  • Keira (absolutely love this name, and it seems to go well with Amelia, but seems to get negative response on here)
  • Macie (too cutesy?)
  • Molly (again maybe too cutesy)
  • Matilda (however have mentioned this name in passing to a few family members and had very negative response)

Thanks.

Keira - heard screeched a lot. The others are fine apart from 'Macie'. Not cute, just really naff.

Caitlin is my favourite from those you've listed.

Yeah not a fan of Macie.
Does Amelia have a nickname? You don't want Milly or Mimi and Molly.

I really love the name Matilda. I learnt after dc1 that its best not to mention names to folk in RL, there's always someone who hates the name you love but they're much less likely to say so when it's already on the birth certificate!

No, Amelia is purely Amelia atm, she is only 2 years old so come nursery or school that may all change but hope not.

Part of me is put off by Matilda as I hate Tilly and Tilda tbh.

Maisie although a very lovely name (I adore) my first car was called maisie, and unfortunately also in my mind associate that to this name.

Keira in my mind is front runner at present, do you think people would accept her as middle class and not judge her for her name? Because judging a name on class seems to be the "norm" here.

The spelling 'Keira' is what makes this name seem tacky- just like Neve when it should be Niamh- it is not the proper spelling though widely accepted now as Keira Knightly made it popular. Apparently this is not her spelling but changed to make it easier for people to say. Ciara or Kiara is the proper spelling. Ciara is beautiful & I know a few older & one baby Ciara. Very popular but not Chav in Ireland- go for it!Wink

Keira is lovely, although I agree with louise2011 about the spelling.

I have a Keira and an Imogen. I love their names. Also had Caitlin on my list for dd1. Go with Keira if you love it, it's a great name. :)

I have a Ciar so would say that the correct spelling is Ciara.

The name Keir is a Scottish surname and an accepted (and more common spelling as a first name esp in Scotland) and that is where the Keira comes from. It is not technically the same name though as they have different histories.

Having said that, are you happy that you would have two names ending in 'a' ?
All your names are nice, but Matilda sounds really similar to Amelia, Caitlyn is quite a "hard" sounding name compared the softer sound of Amelia, Macie is nice but a bit cute and Molly again is very similar to Amelia imo

Amelia Earhart's sister was called Grace Muriel if that's any use.

Keira- Don't like it sorry, makes me think of Keira Knightly

  • Macie- No, not keen
  • Molly- Really popular, like the name but my parents have a dog called Molly so that's what I think of, but I like the dog a lot so no negative connotations. Just too popular.
  • Matilda- This is my favourite!! and think it goes really well with Amelia

-Caitlin- It's ok,

Matilda gets my vote!!

Ciara is mich better than Keira.
For similar reasons (i.e. traditional Irish stuff), do not use Caitlin if you intend to pronounce it 'kate-lin'.

If you go for the Ciara spelling then Keira is nicer.

I like fomr your list Matilda, and Molly after that. Although my DN is Amelia and is Milly, so you may want to think about that if you went with Molly.
