The One or Shortlist

Did you have a name you just loved before your LO was born, and that was the name he/she was given? Or a shortlist of names which you liked, but not loved, until one popped out from the page when he/she arrived?

I'm due in jan with my first we think we have 'the one' that we picked from our short list but Im still having a scout through name sites in case I find anything else, but I do know people that decided at birth from their list to be able to see which one suited the baby

With DS boy or girl it was The One. With boys names it was the Only One either of us liked long before I was even pregnant and the second name arrived a few weeks before he was born and just fitted.

This time with DC2 the girls name is still The One but we are having real trouble with boys names, we hate them all so far Confused

With DC1 we had "the one" for a boy and a compromise for a girl. Fortunately DC1 turned out to be DS1.

With DC2, we had "the one" for a girl (not the previous compromise, which was unusably similar sounding to DS1) and a shortlist of two for a boy. Fortunately DC2 turned out to be DD.

With DC3 we had "the one" for both boy and girl. As DC3 was DS2, we still have a spare "the one" for a girl, but we're not intending to have a DC4.

"The One"

With DS1, I had his names picked out and ready, but took my time deliberating so hadn't finalised until the last few weeks. I did also change my mind about one of his middle names on the way to the registry office Grin, but I always knew he would be Oscar.

With this DS2, we've got his name picked out and ready. DS1 has been using it already Smile

With all of my 3 - we had a boys name and a girls name and never wavered from either of them.

Dc1 had one name from quite early on. Lucky she was a girl as we had no boys name Blush
Dc2 had 2 names and dh decided once he was born.
Dc1 chose dc3's name around 20weeks and we liked it so that stuck.
Dc4 had one name chosen quite late on but there was no real short list, just an awful lot of definite 'no' names Grin

Dd1's name was definite. We loved it.
Dd2's name was a compromise as I had a definite boys name but no girls name. After she was born, it grew on us so much that it is now "the One".
Dd3's name was really tricky - "the One" had lots of problems with it. We couldn't settle on a good enough compromise so we went with the iffy "One".

DD was a short list, boy or girl.

DS was 'the one' for a boy, short list for a girl.

DC3 is a complete unknown at the moment!

DD's name was the one.
I saw it, at about week 15, and put it on the list.
I didn't cross out the rest of the list, but I knew that was it!

we didnt even have a list, partner gave a few suggestions, first one we both liked that was it and we stuck to it. had a few wobbles towards the end wondering whether we should have done a little more thinking but it totally suits her :)

so the one
