Gustav

Can I have it? Or am I is he going to be laughed at?

I think it's lovely and I would like to use it after the composer Holst whose music I am inordinately fond of. Also I do have Polish/German grandparents and the baby's 'father' (who we have not seen for months) is from Eastern Europe. So not entirely without background iyswim.

Thing is I'm not sure how you shorten it without resorting to Gus which I don't like. Thinking of having a middle name to use instead if he hates it, or to shorten - so, Gustav Frederic and call him Freddie.

What thinkest thou Smile

You could shorten it to Tavi if you didn't like Gus.

S'alright

Tavi...hmmm. That's an idea. Or just not shorten it? There are some weirdy names at the kids' school already so I'm sure other children with cope with it iyswim.

I don't want to be too out there, though. I just can't think of ANY boys' names I like. This is the only one. And a couple I can't use cos friends/family already did iyswim.

Crikey it's hard with so many boys! I used up the good ones!

I like it! Or you could go for Frederic Gustav with Freddie as nn?

Just don't shorten it! It's a great name. My ds has a version of it as his second name, after a relative.

Oh brill Smile Thankyou for liking it.

I wasn't sure if anyone would.
Good idea to have Frederic as first name, too - will have to play around with that.

YouMay, there are so many little Freddies out there already, what is wrong with Gustav or Gus?

Sorry, just saw you don't like Gus - I actually much prefer Gustav too. It rolls off the tongue easily enough, I don't think it would be shortened at all!

It's gorgeous, and too good a name to be shortened, but I would use a more 'ordinary' middle name as you suggest.
