Baby names

Would this make me look like a crazed Titanic fan?

DH and I are trying to conceive DC #2. My favorite boy's name is Jack. (It's not nearly as popular here in the US as it is there :) )

The only middle name we both like is Dawson. It was my grandfather's middle name, and his father's, and a great-great uncle's first name. I never knew the uncle, but there are still stories going around about him at family gatherings; he was a colorful man. :o

Also, I just like the way Jack Dawson OurSurname sounds.

BUT. Leo's character in Titanic was called Jack Dawson.

Is that reason enough not to do it? :(

I have not seen the film, so had no idea!

Sounds like Jackdaw, which I think is really cute!

I thought of jackdaw too! :)

I played that word in a high stakes scrabble tournament years ago, when computers were not ubiquitous, and it wasn't in their crappy dictionary and no one believed it was a word. Angry

I would clock it straight away, I must admit. But it won't affect him in the same way- Titanic will be ancient to his generation and most won't know about it. It's a nice name, go for it.

Yep more Jackdaw here. Though I quite liked Rose for a girl though we already have a Jack and you've just made me realise the Titantic link there!

How about Dawson Jack? Dawson is great IMHO!

Nobody really uses middle names though, in real life. They don't matter nearly as much as people imagine.

I do like Dawson as a first name Bird but DH is not keen.

We already have a Sam and I love Sam and Jack together. :)

Nah it's ok I think. I think quadruplets called Jack, Rose, Leo and Kate might be too much though Grin

I've seen the film and wouldn't have even recognised it as the character's name without you pointing it out, so I should imagine you'll be fine :o

I don't think it's a problem. I've also seen the film, and also didn't remember what the character's surname was until you pointed it out.

Not a problem as first and middle names are used together infrequently. I saw go for it.

I would have thought it was a Dawson's creek reference rather than Titanic. I wouldn't let that stop you using it though. I don't even know if Dawson's creek is still on.
