Its still early days for us but this is DC3 so we have a few names we have talked about using then gone another route. So opinions on:
Ansel
Perry
Brecon
Our surname is a bit like the fast food golden arches.

Ansel is the best of the bunch. It makes me think of Ansel Adams, whose work I like very much.
Brecon - beacon/bracken/kracken - no.
Perry - no, but I rather like Jerry (Jeremy)

Perry could be nice if it was short for something else.
What are your other dc called?

Oh dear. I also like linden (but not the Lyndon spelling). FYI we are in the USA if my choices seem a bit un-mumsnetty

How about

Mitchell
Troy
Brent
Clint

I prefer Anselm to Ansel, and think of Perry as a nn for Peregrine. It also sounds odd in UK because of a strong association to 'Kevin and Perry" (well known TV stereotype horrid teenagers). Brecon wouldn't work in UK either, because one would inevitably think 'Beacons' after it because of the place.

Brecon and ansel are dh suggestions (actually he prefers bracken to brecon). I like Perry but one thing is Perry and dc2s name make up an American clothes designer/store. Dc2 has a welsh name. So trying to figure out if I will appear ridiculous with those names. It would be like having dc2 called Armani and dc3 called georgio.

I like Perry, short for Peregrine.
Ansel is nice too.

Just a bit unmumsnetty :).

BRACKEN?! You'd name your kid after giant ferns?
Perry is also alcoholic drink based on pears. Can be sickly sweet.

Okay, what about
Brendon, Brandon
Percy
Jarod
Mark

Grin no, c'mon ,they're all awful.

Perry is the least awful. Brecon is good for a dog. Ansel is quite nice if you have a DD called Gretel and an accent that means you drop your 'H'.

Don't like any of them. They are all too trendy for me.

I used the book Bring Back Beatrice to come up with our shortlist - it's actually from the US so might be particularly suitable for you.

All 3 names would be hard work in the UK because of the reasons PPs have said plus Ansel (anusol - UK cream for piles).

What are you looking for? Scottish sounding names?

Ansel would be my favourite from this list.
Perry is dreadful.

Any other thoughts? Do you know for sure that its a boy?

Oh dear, I don't actually like any of these names and I know a lot of Labrador dogs called Bracken. Sorry.

Well I guess we will have to think of some other names when I am in a less addled state (terribly sick).
mrstowers Interesting comment about the dogs! My 10 year old lab is called Maisy and I understand there are now a lot of little girls running around with that name - you never can tell. Not met a dog called Bracken yet tho...
pixie No we dont know if its a boy but we are decided (more or less) on a girls name which I am too scared to share with everyone
