My niece has this name. No nn though just Loveday.

I think it's gorgeous but my family would give me very weird looks indeed.

I don't think you could nickname. Personally I don't like it and imagine you'd get a few Confused looks and have to explain it quite a lot.

I don't know... Sounds American. Like a surname. And I wouldn't know whether it's a girl or a bou just from the name.

It's a cornish girls' name. We are considering it as a middle name for DD due in sept (we live in cornwall).

Honestly? I hate it. It sounds ridiculous.

Isn't it a Cornish name? I don't know what you'd use as a nn though.

I like it. You could have a Loveday Jennifer nicknamed LJ, two Cornish names.

Beautiful!

I love it.
It's not made up, it's got a good strong British heritage and i wish I'd thought of it.
And I normally loathe weird names...

I love it. No need for nn, surely?

I think it's pretty BUT I think any Loveday would get the piss massively ripped at school. So I wouldn't dare.

I don't personally like it (reminds me too much of Lovejoy I'm afraid) & I'd be worried about the nickname Lovey.

Report
Puffykins · 10/07/2012 18:59

Love it. It was high on my list for DD but DH vetoed it (along with every other name on my list bar one).

I knew a girl of this name at school and she was viciously bullied for it, so that puts me off. But it was years ago and names have become far more inventive and varied since the days when you got mocked if you weren't called Susan or Sarah-Louise.

Too surnamey.

Loveday? Really? Loveday is usually Saturday in my house to that could by the NN.

SmallWhiteWine · 10/07/2012 19:06

It's my daughter's middle name Grin I have always loved it. I wish I'd used it as her first name sometimes.

Report
phlebas · 10/07/2012 22:42

it's my dd2's middle name & I utterly adore it :)

I'm from the west country & went to school with a couple of Lovedays - it is uncommon but but weird there. I would've loved it as dd's first name but dh had his heart set on something else.

(we did have a lovejoy comment once - from my BIL he's a total loser, everyone with any sense/taste loves it Wink )

phlebas · 10/07/2012 22:43

but not weird (!)

I think it's gorgeous - I had a Rosamunde Pilcher fixation at school, and it's one of her characters...

I was going to say Rosamundes Pilcher too minty (best books for when you're stuck in bed with the flu).

It's a bit jolly hockeysticks for my taste but it's not the worst in the world.

It's my dd2s middle name too. I love it, and it isn't that unusual - I have met three, of very different ages.

GobblersKnob · 11/07/2012 17:35

I know some people love it, but to me it just sounds like a porn star, sorry.
