Middle name for Artemis?

WantAnOrange · 27/05/2012 19:59

DH and I are both pretty much decided on the name Artemis but I am stuck for a middle name. Ideally a family name, from my side would be great but I'm not mad about any of them, and I'm not sure any of them fit. Our choices are:

Ann
Michelle
Ina
Shirley (or not!)

Or we could come up with something completely unconnected to a family name!

Surname begins with J and has 2 syllables, think Johnson but not...

why not use the initials of some or all of those and please more family in one fell swoop! Ami mia micha or throw all the letters into a pot and make a brand new one!

Artemis Ina

Has to one of the best names I've ever heard! Grin

Has to be Artemis Ina

Michelle, Ann and Shirley are all quite dated -- not even granny chic.

Artemis Ina on the other hand is great.

Both my nans are called Shirley Ann! Hence those being on the list but I agree they are very dated but not quite dated enough to be cool yet. Ina was my great nan.

DH is not keen on Ina, I'll try and talk him round.

Artemis Ina sounds like Artemisina - one name.

I quite like Artemis Ann - the alliteration works for me.

Artemis Shirley has too many S sounds together but might sound fab with your surname.

Artemis Michelle works too.

Ignore the comments about the names being dated - it's the family meaning that's important.

I like Artemis Ann too. She might want the option on a simple name if Artemis becomes too much.

Would you be happy with AA as initials?

What about Jane or Rose?

I don't think initials really matter. I can't think of a time I've ever written down just my first 2 initials. Unless they spelled something rude of course, wouldn't want to be BJ!

How about a related or similar name?

Ann - Annabel, Annie, Anneliese
Michelle - Michaela, Mia, Mica
Ina - Christina, Nina, Georgina
Shirley - Shona, Sheryl

Agree that Artemis Ina sounds like Artemisina.

Artemis Ann or Artemis Shirley would be my choices.

Her nickname would be Missy btw. I think I'm least keen on Shirley, and Michelle was sort of our cop out name. It's my middle name so I could use to avoid my relative's names!

I also quite like Lily as a middle name but think it's maybe a bit to popular atm?

Lily is a lovely name, very pretty :) It's fairly popular but that still only means a small percentage will have the name.

Love Artemis but not loving the second name choices - something longer would sound better as a shor one syllable name (ann Ina) after a 3 sylable one sounds a bit stunted.

If you're going to use Artemis then for the love of God give her a normal middle name that doesn't sound like an aftershave so she can use that instead. Poor child.

Like Artemis but am not sure if any of your middle name choices really go apart from Lily which sounds OK. Louise is also good. Keeping to the Greek theme, what about Helen? Agree with Hybrid that something longer is better. There must be many names that do go with Artemis. I would look through a book and try the names out loud.

Lynette we have a Diana in my family who strongly dislikes me. Wouldn't work!

Artemis Anna? Nod to the nans but I think Anna 'goes' slightly better with Artemis, I like the alliteration.

Anna sounds nice. Missy Anna is cute I think?

Only 2 baby Artemises in the Telegraph birth announcements lately:

Artemis Cosmo (boy)
Artemis Rose

I prefer Artemis Ann to Artemis Anna. I don't think the initials AA are a problem - I think of AA Milne.

I agree that with an unusual name like Artemis, it is probably best to play it safe with a more commonplace middle name. Artemis Lily works well.

I love the name Shirley-there was a baby Shirley born to a mner last week.

You so rarely use your middle name that I would personally chose a name with the most meaning to you and your dd. Love Artemis btw - lovely classic that makes a refreshing change from all the cutesy names that are so common currently.
