Which do you prefer? I have loved Clementine for ages....but Tabitha is a recent love, which I think (correct me if I am wrong) is a biblical name, this is a positive for me as I have a son with a biblical name already.

Ooh I can't decide - I love both of them!

Both are nice if quirky classic is your thing!

I'm never sure if Clementine is Clementeen or Clementyne when it's a name. Which pronunciation would you go for?

I'd ask yourself this: would I prefer to be called Clementine or Tabitha? My answer: Tabitha - although on paper Clementine's got the edge for me. I think I'd feel a bit silly introducing myself as Clementine even though it's gorgeous. It's perhaps a bit fussy/long for my own tastes.

Tabitha seems to me to be easier to say - and it's more of a down-to-earth kind of name while still being a bit different. and Tabby/Tibby is marginally a nicer nickname than Clemmy.

I like them both equally but would probably go for Clementine as i prefer the nn e.g. Clemmie, whereas Tabitha, has Tabby which is quite cute but a bit cat like.

Clemency is a nice alternative to Clementine.

Both nice, but prefer Clementine. Tabitha is a tiny bit girly / cutesy.

I don't like either that much. Tabitha makes me think of a cat. Perhaps there was one in a book I once read. Clementine okay but not very nice. Oh My Darling etc. Don't know. Neither quite work for me but then she's not my baby. Go with the one you like.

I love Clementine. Dh won't go for it, otherwise I would name dc2 it.
Also like Tabitha , but don't like Tabby.

Much prefer Clementine.

Tabitha is an odd-sounding word.

I love both. I knew a Clementine once, she promounced it to rhyme with wine (Grin) and for a nn, was known as Tine. Tabitha is on our short list (finding out gender in a couple of weeks Grin) I love Tabby as a nn, and I LOVE the cat association (but then I come from a family with a tradition of using cat/dog names Hmm)

Tabitha by a million miles for me, but I am biased as I have one! We love the feline associations that go with this name. It's unusual but not out there and works into adulthood. We've had loads of compliments on her name but it does seem to be love it/hate it - as I suspect Clementine might be too.

Clementine is too flouncy for me and she would always have the pronounciation issues others have mentioned.

Which can you best imagine shouting across a playground?

There is a Tabitha in the bible but I don't know the context in which she appears. Apparently the name is from the Aramaic word for Gazelle and means beauty/grace in Hebrew.

We had narrowed it down to two names by the time DD2 was born and when I held her in my arms Tabitha was the one that felt most natural.

I think Clementine is a lovely name, but for me it's a fruit, also I think Clemmie is too much like clammy, as in hands, eugh.

So Tabitha wins imo

I'm expecting a girl in July, we have decided to call her Tabitha Clementine. So obviously I love both names and Tabitha is my favourite.

We had both of these on our shortlist for DD2.

When we were discussing Clementine, DD1 (aged 3 at the time) shrieked with laughter, she thought it was the funniest joke she'd ever heard Hmm. When she had recovered the power of speech, she thought she'd add to the conversation, and spluttered "let's call the baby Lemon!" before dissolving once more into fits of delighted giggles.

We reluctantly crossed Clementine from the list. I still think it is pretty though.

Love both and have one already, with DD2 (if there is one) down for the other.

Tabitha

Clementine is less popular. I'd go for that.

I prefer Clementyne pronunciation as I know a woman with a Clementine and a broad Lancashire accent who pronounces it Cle-mon-teen "like the French" and it sounds awful.

Like Tabitha but LOVE Clementine. Would love to use it with the French pronunciation for future DD. I believe Clementine Churchill's name was pronounced this way, so I like to think it's not too affected ;)

Tabitha Clementine Veronica LastName. Is my suggestion (but then, my DS has 3 middles names...)

Report
ornellaia · 30/04/2012 18:46

I'd vote for Tabitha, but then I named my DD after my first cat so I may not be the best judge Grin

I think that I will go with Tabitha Veronica Juno if this little sprog turns out to be a girl!! Though I will probably change my mind again...I just enjoy this naming thing so much
