I have 2 dds already, and 2 step children (one dss, one dsd). all of them have 3 first names, so that is a lot of names used...

we are struggling, especially with girls names, since there are 9 lovely names now out of play. having said that, though, girls names are easier than boys names for some reason, so we still have more options for girls.

so far we have:

girls
Victoria
Antonia (dh likes this, I am not sure; preferable to Octavia though, which he loves)
Astrid

boys
Robert (dh keen, I am less so)
Edward (doesn't really sit right with our surname, though)

and that's it.

any thoughts?

I like Victoria best out of your girls names, am not so keen on Antonia. Astrid quite Scandanavian sounding to me.

Other girls names that are similar, classic but not trendy IMO
Miranda
Julia
Nicola
Francesca
Melissa
Serena
Josephine

Other boys names
Charles
Joseph
Sam
James
Alexander
Thomas
Michael
Matthew

I'm not keen on Astrid, makes me think of 'triffid' from that film. I used to work with an Antonella, which I like (but then she was lovely) and at the moment I also like Connie, Camille, Ava (but maybe too popular at present), and Agatha. But I'm not pregnant & not planning to be, so I give them to you Grin

I like Astrid. It means Star (I think)

Will never have a girl but these are my current faves:

Elizabeth (nice nicknames - I'd go Betty or Elle)
Margaret (Maggie/Peggy)
Serena
Claudia
Leah

Boys:

I like Edward, and I like the nn Ted as well

what about:

Michael
Patrick
John
Evan

thanks Smile

Astrid is my favourite, but not totally convinced I could use it. We are a European family, but not Scandanavian.

can't use (siblings or other close family members)
Julia
Melissa
Francesca
Serena
Connie
Camille
Ava
Elizabeth
Claudia

or

Charles
James
Alexander
Michael

I do like Patrick, but fear it would be ever shortened to Pat or Rick, both of which I hate.

I like Margaret too, but dh refuses.

Miranda is nice, as is Thomas (but htere seem to be alot of them about at the moment)

I love Astrid. I think it is very cool and not too fussy. Connie also fabulous and I love Elizabeth as a classic. The others all less good

On boys I like Michael, it's very trad.

As you like Astrid, do you like any Scandinavian boy names?

I'm not sure I know too many!

I like Linus, which feels Scandanavian-y to me (but for all I know isn't!). dh thinks it's 'ok'

Ooh, Linus is cool

What about Asa

or Evan

Report
silverfrog · 03/04/2012 19:34

Not keen on those, sorry. Evan just doesn't do it for me, and Asa is too Old Testament.

Sadly don't think I can convince dh wrt Linus. He could tolerate it, but don't think he likes it enough.

I like Astrid best from your girls list and have a cousin of this name - her family are not scandinavian I don't think it matters so many names have roots in other languages/countries.

Boys names are much harder I agree. How about Tobias, Daniel, Andrew, Seth?
