Any Floras out there?

We think Flora is a lovely name. Would be great to know what it is like to have Flora as a name. What reactions do Floras or parents of Floras get when they say the name?

My friend's daughter is called Flora. She is a beautiful girl, aged 21 and a medical student. In Scotland (where we are) it is a traditional name. Not common but it has never disappeared.

There's a tub of Flora in my fridge if that helps. Which it doesn't - sorry. Blush

Not to my taste TBH.

My niece is called Flora, she is 6 now and the name has really grown with her, it's not a baby name without sounding to grown up. I think it's a beautiful name and isn't that common. My niece has never met another Flora. Her name is Flora Cecelia Grace and then her surname.

My friend, Flora, is in her mid-20s and works as a primary school teacher. I didn't meet her until university but all I remember is people responding very positively to her name. Someone bought her Flora by Gucci perfume for Christmas and I thought that was quite nice!

I went to college with a Flora. The name didn't suit her personality at all but it wasn't that there's anything wrong with the name.

Flora makes me think of a big healthy German girl.

Flora was a Roman goddess but so was Fauna. How come no one calls their daughter Fauna? It's a much nicer sound I think.

Not a massive fan of the name myself - have only ever come across one Flora who seemed nice enough but I could never get the 'butter' connection out of my head (sorry!)

It's not even a butter connection as obviously butter is a wonder food. It's just mucky old marg.

Beautiful name. Wish I had another DD to name Flora.

We have never eaten that yuck stuff that is the margarine so it's never been in our frame of reference. Really quite cross they used a lovely, elegant classic name on such a rank food. Or any food for that matter.

I'd ignore the silly marge references and use it anyway.

I'm one.

hated my name as a child, still not a massive fan, but at least I no longer get the 'ooh do you spread well!' comments, or 'is you sister called Clover?' ha ha.

I'm 30 btw, and never met other floras growing up, and still don't know any others. the few others I have met all have the same middle name as me though.

I love this name! I feel quite sad that we didn't have our Flora as she turned out to be a boy! (on the plus side we got to use our boy name, of course) Smile

My sister has Flora as a middle name. I don't think she liked it that much. She is in her late 50's.

I think it's quite an ugly name

Also, it's a margarine.

I really like it. But then when I read all these posts and the margerine connection it does make you wonder if she'd get a hard time at school.

I like it, but we had a girl at college called flora, who was nicknamed Marge, and constantly got ribbed about whether she "spread easily"... So its forever ruined for me I'm afraid..

It's lovely

Do they even make flora any more? I sort of think of margarine as a bit 80s and haven't seen or eaten is for yeeeears
