Hi,
I am 20weeks pregnant with our second child. We do not know if it is a boy or girl. We have a 2 year old daughter called Pippi, she gets called Pip most of the time. My husband is Dutch, I am English and we live in holland. We love the name Steffi (Stef) for short for a girl. In holland (actually Swiss name I think) Stef is also a boys name. I love it but wonder what the British think of it? We are not sharing name ideas with friends so that's why I am seeking reactions on here! Seth is not an overly common name here about 100 boys a year get the name.
Thanks

I love it, if I were having a boy i'd call in Stefan with Stef for short.

I think it works well in the UK, well known but not popular and quite classless. It's also one of those names which works in loads of different Euro countries.

Here I would expect it to be a shortening of Stephanie, which is a girl's name. The male equivalent would be Stephen/Steven, and the usual shortening Steve.
However if you aren't living here and your child is obviously not English (speaks with an accent etc) then I can't see that being called Stef would be a major problem, although it might be easier to have the full name of Stefan.
