A replacement name urgently needed for a horrid name - help!

If DC is a DS then DH would like to name him after his elderly great -uncle (who has no children).

Lovely ,wonderful and only fair as DC is getting my family middle name.

Except he was Uncle Algernon (after the character - his mother was a big oscar wilde fan apparently)

And no.

DH agrees it is a bit unorthodox but sees it as a loved uncles name so thinks it will be fine.
No it won't - it is awful, a horid name (no offensive to anyone meant of course)

So I really need a replacement name that I can suggest to DH without getting my head bitten off.

Getting to choose the first name is not equal to using your family middle name.
Mind you, middle names are often used as an alternative when you don't like your first name, so that may work in your favour

Seriously, if you hate a name (either you or your DH) it should be off the table. You both have "power of veto". Could Algernon be the middle name as a compromise, either as well as or instead of your family name? Then find a name you both love.

Agree with the others that both should have the power to veto. I wanted my late Grandfather's name for our DS but DH hated it so we didn't.

I really don't like Aubrey - there is something sticky about it and just a bite brideshead for me (like Evelyn I suppose)
and my family middle name is actually a surname so can't imagin that being used instead.

I know a little Algie - short for Algernon. I quite like it actually. You could shorten to Alie instead?

Unfortunatly can't ask uncle Algernon as he had a massive stroke a few years back is is dysphagic, aphasic, lives in a home, and can hardly move his limbs.

It's the kind of name that is (almost?) always shortened. I can't see that it's any worse than Archibald, and Archie is very popular, along with Alfie. So Algy sounds quite "now". Another possible shortening would be Gerry, but I quite like Algy.

I'd choose your own first name and have two middle names. I and my DCs have 2 (family) middle names and it's fine.
