Ophelia

We are talking about having another child in the not too distant future. IF we have a little girl I would like to call her Ophelia. My daughter is called Ariadne and I think Ophelia works well with her name, what do you think?

I like Ariadne, it's pretty and unusual. Ophelia seems more heavy and ponderous.

Depends where you live. Ophelia could be the subject of "I feel yer" type jokes in some areas. I know of a newborn one in Yorkshire and it hasn't gone down terribly well.

I do think it's a pretty name. my shakespeare's a bit rusty - didn't ophelia go mad and drown in hamlet? I'm not sure but i think i'd want to check out the storyline before committing to it.

I love it. Unusual and elegant. Why should the fact that Ophelia in Hamlet came to a sticky end be relevant? I'm sure there's stories with characters of every single name that you can think of that had bad stuff happen to them....

There are happy and sad associations with every name. Ophelia in Hamlet did go mad and drown but she was a beautiful, caring woman.

I know an Ophelia. She's also known as Fifi or Lady O for fun!

It's a beautiful, elegant and as yet, underused name. Go for it.

Both names are lovely, again biased towards Ophelia as it's our daughter's name. Only ever met one other Ophelia so far, another Mum who said she loved her name and liked that it was so unusual.
