Does this name conjure up images of the sea and a place for boats or is it an underused classic?

Does anyone know any RL Marinas?

The only Marina who springs to mind is the brassy blonde bit who was in Last of the Summer Wine, trying to have an affair with Pearl's drippy husband, what was his name?

NickyNackyNooNoo Wed 24-Aug-11 14:43:34

Howard.....

Lovely name. I don't know any and it doesn't remind me of anyone.

There is one in Local Hero which obviously is an amazing film.

I like it.

There's a Marina near me, so it conjures up an image of a tacky seagull-filled shopping centre with an ASDA and a casino.

For me it sadly conjures up a number of yukky-coloured cars owned by my parents and grandparents in the 70s.

But as a name I like it.

There's one in the royal family too.

Quite like it, mainly because it makes me think of the sea

I can only think of Marina Abramovic the performance artist. And she rocks.
Oh and Aqua Marina from Thunderbirds

minipie Wed 24-Aug-11 17:33:32

I like it, but it is a bit boat-y.

How about Serena <current favourite name> Carina, Miranda, Sabrina, Marianna ...

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar Wed 24-Aug-11 17:36:54

Love it. I associate it with academic types.

I like it as a name. Does also remind me of boats but nothing wrong with that.

upahill Wed 24-Aug-11 19:55:06

It's a nice name.

kelly2000 Wed 24-Aug-11 19:55:21

I like the name. there is the singer marina and the diamonds.

PercyFilth Wed 24-Aug-11 20:41:15

It's lovely.

The previous Duchess of Kent (mother of the current Duke, Princess Alexandra & Prince Michael) she was Princess Marina of Greece. Very elegant lady.

Marina is also the heroine of Shakespeare's Pericles.

coccyx Wed 24-Aug-11 20:42:29

coil???? i know its not spelt the same ,but thats what came to my mind

carciofi Wed 24-Aug-11 20:43:06

I think it is a lovely name. I know a little Marina. The family are big into sailing so it suits her perfectly!

My next door neighbour when I was growing up was called Marina. She was the nicest woman I've ever had the good fortune to meet.

A place for boats. Howard's girlfriend/tarty bit on Last Of The Summer Wine.

Also, not a nice name IMO. Sorry blush.
