What are peoples opinions on the above name?

Would probably go for Sylvia as a long name and Sylvie as a nn.

Sylvie is beautiful but I really don't like Sylvia. Can't really explain why.

Sylvia is fab, a strong yet pretty name :) Personally I much prefer Sylvia. Sylvie is a bit faddy in comparison, but if you like Sylvie as nickname, then you have the best of both worlds!

I really like it (sadly, DH didn't!)

I particularly like Sylvie, but would have also wanted to give Sylvia as the full name.

I love Sylvia (Sylvia Plath fan).

Sadly DH said it was a "dinner lady's name" Shock (sorry)

I love Sylvie - I think it's lovely and light and stylish. We are expecting a boy but it was a serious contender for our girl's name. Love Sylvia less.

I have an 11 week old Sylvia :-D

We did consider Sylvie, but decided on Sylvia for two reasons:

  • I was worried it would become a bit Milly/Lilly/Tilly/Evie sounding. I.e. Nice names but relatively indistinguishable from one another;
  • I couldn't be bothered with the constant, "Is it Sylvia?" responses. We had many of those when discussing the name before she arrived.

I love her name. I know people either love it or hate it but they won't ever forget it.

DH and I have never called her Sylvie as a nn, but funnily enough DD1 who is 3, has... :)

Lovely lovely lovely Smile

With Sylvia you get the best of both worlds if you use both, don't keep one for Sunday!

I love Sylvie, but not too keen on Sylvia, not sure why! I think I just like the simplicity of Sylvie. Also, I'm not keen on nns - I reckon if you're going to call her Sylvie anyway, just call her Sylvie!
