Am expecting DC4 in October and DH and I cannot agree on anything! Suggestions desperately needed.

We already have Elsa, Henry and Anna (Annie).

I quite like Ada for a girl, but DH says its too 'old ladyish'

Talk him into Ada! It's lovely.

I love Ada, tried to persuade my DH into it too but not luck yet!

How about Freya or Clara? Though I realise that's a lot of names ending in 'a' sounds.

I like James or Oliver from your boys list. Do you like Oscar?

I like your children's names especially Annie and Elsa. Not crazy about Ada though. What about Margaret with Greta for short. Annie, Elsa and Greta would be lovely. Clara also has that same Victorian feel as Annie and Else, but I picture younger people inthe victorian era. When i hear Ada I picture an old lady not that long ago.

I prefer Edie or Edith to Ada. There is an Irish name I quite like, Edel. What do you think of that? pronounced very like Adele. Just Edele.

I like Mabel and Christabel too. They have a similar Victorian feel.

Thanks for all your brilliant suggestions!

I love love Clara, that's definitely on the list.

Also like Alice or Rose for a girl and William or George for a boy.

Unfortunately can't see DH changing his mind about Ada, he also says that everyone will call her Ava by mistake; which I suppose is very likely as Ava is very popular.

Martha is lovely and Vita is gorgeous. Is it short for Victoria? Not desperately keen on Victoria.

Vita is a name in it's own right, it's Latin and means 'life'. It is sometimes used as a nn for Victoria, but this is rare Smile

I love Ada - it's our next daughter's name - not that I'm pregnant yet! (After Ada Lovelace - and the eponymous computer code).

Report
AnaisB · 08/07/2011 21:03

Also love Rose. I like William, but put off by royal connections and quite like George. Miles is OK too - but my family would laugh and think it was pretentious. Grace/Gracie seem v popular at the mo 0 or maybe that's just round here.

Papyrus · 08/07/2011 21:05

I know Anais! Ada Lovelace was just brilliant. But DH is adamant. It goes perfectly with our surname as well.

DH has compromised and agreed I can Ada as a middle name, providing it goes with DC4's first name (and DC4 is a girl of course) Grin

I like Ada, though maybe just a bit too similar to Anna?

Grace is nice too, and another famous computer programmer if that's important to you :)

Ivan is fabulous. Vita too.

Report
Papyrus · 09/07/2011 13:29

You don't think Ivan is too synonymous with all things terrible? That is my one reservation about it.

Must admit I have fallen completely in love with Vita.

No -- no more than Joseph would make me think Stalin. Adolph on the other hand, I would avoid.

I associate the name with Northern Ireland for some reason, though I knew some growing up further south.

What lovely names your children have!

Clara or Miles would be great from your shortlist.
