What do you think of Nyah as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Looks and sounds like a sneer. I think I have read too much Viz to like it, sorry.

I think it's better spelled Nia maybe?

I think it's a grower. It has a similar sound to Nia and Maia which are more familiar.

When I was little 'nyah' was the standard phonetic spelling for that sound children make when they mean 'so there'. As in 'well my dad's a policeman and I'm getting a pony for Christmas, so nyah '.

So I think that's a no from me Grin

I prefer Nia but that is pronounced Nee-a (like Mia) rather than Ny-ah

bigbluebump · 07/07/2011 21:26

I like it but agree that Nia looks more feminine.

All I can hear is Edward G. Robinson's voice.

Nia is better - Nye -uh.

To go with older siblings Nyah, Nya and Nyah-Nyaah?

Don't it at all, sounds whiny/sneery to me. Mia and Maia are nice, not sure about Nia as it doesn't look like a proper name to me (though realise it possibly is!).

sorry, mean I don't like it at all!

There is one in my dd's class - not for me personally but will certainly not be popular/common so may be a plus point for you?

Looks like Noah with a typo. Not nice.

I know a baby Niah (pronounced nyah). I like it

Report
superjobeespecs · 10/07/2011 01:22

naya would be better if thats the way its pronounced imo, the way it is atm makes me over pronounce the ny-ah so it sounds like a wee sneer

I teach a Nyah. She's 10.

I think it's cute but then she is gorgeous so maybe that's why

Nia is a welsh name meaning brightness - I think it's gorgeous.

It reminds me of that noise Miss Piggy makes when she's karate chopping stuff Hmm

But I still kind of like it.
