Love Charlotte but not keen on Charla. Sorry

I love Charlotte! If you like Charla go for it, I didn't think it was a popular nn for Charlotte

Charla sounds like a Dublin pronunciation of Charlotte.

love the name charlotte

it doesn't take much more effort to say charlotte over charla though so i don't see it as much of a 'shortened' version. if i was shortening charlotte i'd use lottie as nn but its not everyones taste.

what about char as nn

I love Charlotte but not Charla. They will sort their own nickname out anyway-I would imagine it would quickly become Char once at school.

Charlotte is a perfectly nice name, as are the 'usual' nicknames Charlie and Lottie. Charla seems a bit contrived IMHO. Sorry.

No one apart from you will use that nickname

Nicknames just happen

Charla is persian meaning little flower

Exactly what I was going to say - very contrived as a nn.

Charlotte is lovely, Charla is dreadful.

I'm a Charlotte and always got called Lottie or Charlie - neither nn was my idea! I was happy with my full name! Why not just use 'Charla' on it's own, nicknames will be thought of by other people independently?

You could use Sharly?

Report
lordsugarslovechild · 12/06/2011 10:41

Or Chaz?

wotnochocs · 12/06/2011 18:08

charla is how they would pronounce charlotte in Baaarnsla (barnsley)!

Love Charlotte, hate Charla.

How about Carlotta as full name with Carla as nickname?

Report
birdofthenorth · 12/06/2011 22:48

Charla sounds a lot like Charlene to me but that's fine too! I know a Shayla if that's relevant?

Report
Ephiny · 13/06/2011 15:53

How would you pronounce it - like 'Sharla' or with the Ch sound as in Charlie?

I like Charlotte but not sure about the nn, aren't nicknames supposed to just 'happen' anyway rather than being contrived in advance?

Report
Karbea · 13/06/2011 16:27

Aren't the shortened versions of Charlotte, Charlie or lottie?

Report
squeak2392 · 14/06/2011 19:48

I agree that you are the only person who will give her that nn.
If you like Charla just use that on it's own. I'm pretty sure it's a name of its own and not just a nn.
In my experience the most common nn for Charlotte is Charl, then Charlie, then Lottie. I have never heard of a Charlotte called Charla, but I have heard of people actually called Charla.
