Darcy or Darcey

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I thought Darcy was the male/surname version and Darcey was the more usual girls version. No idea if that is right or not though, so not much help really! Lovely name though.

DD is Darcey. It looks right, and Darcy looks like a surname. And the most famous Darcey spells it that way.

But we get Darcy, Darcie, Darcee and one D'Arcy. Even after a birth announcement card which noone reads anyway and a Christening invitation.

I don't think this name is 'conventional' enough to have a standard spelling. Not enough people have heard of enough Darceys for there to be a right way.

My friend called her daughter Darcy and, a week later, was told Darcy was a boy and Darcey a girl so she changed the spelling.

I don't know if her source was correct though.

we were originally going with Darcie but every new baby card we received had 'Darcy' so we went with that to save having to spell it everytime.

Funnily enough since then we have cards with Darcy, Darcie and Darcey!
but the majority still spell it Darcy
