1 week to go still undecided ... Ottie nickname for ?

I am due in a week and still undecided .... I am having a girl my ds is called Teo (Italian version for Theo) I love Ottilie but my dh doesn't he says it is a made up name, my best friend says sounds like the brand of hear drops.

What do other think ? Alternatives could be Ottavia, Carlotta or Charlotte (Lottie) Amelie
Camelia or Olimpia ( my gran's name ) Vera (my DH's mother name)

carlotta and teo go together really well and it works with the ottie nn.

This probably won't persuade your DH, but Ottilie isn't a made up name, indeed it is a name that would get Papal approval as there is a St Ottilie from the 1400s.

You might like to consider Odette and Odile (or Odilia) as further variants?

Ottavia is really lovely and I do like Ottilie but not as much... Ottilia is prettier and is defo not made up! it's a nice old fashioned Italian name.

Ottoline? I promise it's not made up (googler Lady Ottoline Morrell), though I'll admitr it's not common.

Ottilie is lovely too.

Ottoline is the heroine of a lovely series of books by Chris Riddell, so it's a name my DCs are familiar with even though I don't think they know any actual people.

Thanks ! I know the Chris Riddel's book and love the fact that Ottoline she is a bit of a new Pippi long stocking, she used to be my hero when I was a little girl - strong and independent.... but it won't go down with DH he hates it. What a nightmare choosing a name.

what does people feel about Olimpia(Ollie) or Vera ? I do not want to give a name that is likely to give my girl a problem or teasing potential

Otthilda is another one.... pronounced Ott-Hilda. Have Olimpia on my list but DH would probably kick it off if he knew. Columba I like too... but that's probably of no help to you!

I love Ottilie, had it on my shortlist both times but it was always referred to as 'thta mad name' by DP and I never got to use it.

Ottie would normally be a nn for Ottilie or Ottoline, as suggested already.

both perfectly normal, real names.

I like them both.
agree Carlotta would work too, but people would expect Lottie rather than Ottie as a nn.

Olimpia and Vera are both lovely imo. I like Camelia too, from your list.

Natalia or Natalie are a little like Ottilie?

How about Zoe or Pia?

Ottie as a nn would make some H-droppers think your DD's name was Hottie.

Pia was my grandma's nickname, Olimpia - I love the sound of it ( and given that it is short goes well with my son, only deterrent is that in Italian means pious = very religious...)Love Natalie as well but one of my best friend is called like that.
Vera is the kind of short classic name, but no popular at the moment, that I would like, but in one of the thread I have read is quite brassy....

i do not like Verity that muc,h it is part of the Hope and Faith type of names, Valery not so much either, both would not work in italian... so difficult to be a bilingual family ! Our last name starts with Ca would it be too much to call someone Carlotta Ca... or
Charlotte Ca....same initials for names and last names is meant to bring good lick to the baby (in italy) but i heard is a no no in england

Hi Ottavia is the italian version of Octavia it is not made up and even if it is not very common in Italy, it is a name people would recognize, I think it means the eight child.

I do like it but it also sounds a bit pretentious / or not?

I have the same two letters starting my first and surname. Oddly it's also Ca-- Ca. I never had any issues with it, except for people to say it's very easy to remember - useful as I work as a freelancer! My father in law has Ka Ka--. I'm English, by the way.
