Cushion cover ideas...

I've just made some curtains for dd, and the man in John Lewis sold me way too much fabric (serves me right, I should have calculated it myself but was worried about getting it wrong). I've said I'd make her some cushion covers, but really want to avoid zips (eek!) and would like something more exciting than a pillowcase-style one. Buttonholes? Tab ties? Any ideas and ideally links to "how to" guides would be gratefully appreciated...

Do you have enough material left over to make a curtain to hide the stuff under her bed? ( or is it just my kids that have stuff shoved under there....)

Personally if doing cushion covers I would either use zips - honestly its not that hard or just buy machine washable cushions and sew the covers on.

I'm making one with DD (11) which is just a strip of fabric folded over, I suppose what you'd call a pillowcase style, but she's decorating it with little fabric corsages and buttons. We saw it in Sew Hip magazine.

I like the idea of decorating them - could put some applique hearts and stars on. She'd love that. She's only 4 so a bit little to do it herself. There's no space under the bed - I deliberately bought one that didn't have that option!!!

Perhaps I should get over my zip phobia...it's a bit ridiculous. It's the only bit of sewing I've never really got to grips with...

If you look at this and sesrch for zipper tutorial you'll find loads of free instructional videos.
