Animal fancy dress

OK so I apologise if this has been done to death but I am not very creative and need to come up with fancy dress with an animal theme for 2 DDs and posibly me and DH too.

I don't have a sewing machine and would prefer not to have to buy / hire anything.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Cat is really, really easy for dds: black t-shirts and leggings, cardboard ears attached to a headband, tail made out of a stocking leg, whiskers with eyeline - sorted.

Martha Stewart has a fab bit on her site about how to dress like a raven which might be good for you.

bunny also runs on similar lines, as does dog,and mice another way of doing ears if you find head bands uncomfortable is to cut out the shape of the ear leave a tag at the bottom fold this back wards and the use kirby grips or clips to attach to top of head, this doesn't work great for bunny ears, although you should be able to buy these quite cheaply.

Tell us what your dh looks like and we'll think of ideas for him! Pigs would be easy too I bet.

errr,

Beetle? Black bin-bag over black long-sleeve top and feelers made out of card stuck on a hairband.

Polar bear? white fur coat/trousers/tights/top and white hood with bear ears made from felt or paper stuck to hairband, colour end of nose in black.

Butterfly? wings made from card decorated with tissue paper, plus stripy tights and top, and pipe cleaners curled at the ends attached to hair band.

Cat? Black tights/trousers plus leotard/polo neck with - you guessed it - black cat ears stuck to hairband. Whiskers drawn on cheeks and colour nose in black. Tail made from stuffed black tights (stuff one leg with more black tights, use other leg to tie round waist like a belt. Can secure with safety pin).

I had this theme for my 2 year old and made her a lamb outfit using a rectangle of fleece with a hole cut for head - tabard style then roughly sewed up sides with holes for arms (just 3 large stitches with brown wool) and made lamb ears on an alice band.
She was under the weather and it remains unworn!!
I made her a frog outfit for halloween that she wore though. Another tabard of green sequin material with egg box eyes on elastic to hold more green sequin material on head. Very original and she loved it. Very home made looking so fine for toddler.

Make your DH go as a bunny. Get him some light-up pink bunny ears
