He has completely vetoed any idea of a straw hat with bunnies, flowers on etc.
I am completely non creative, and have googled lots of images, all of which he has rejected as being "girly"
HELP ! - I have two weeks to agree something/make it/buy it.

Make a head-sized circle from yellow card. Put 2 wide strips of strong card in middle in a sort of sunken cross. Fill space with brown shredded tissue (well stuck with sellotape). Add painted egg shells and baby chicks. (that's what we did last year - and won!)

Actually, we haven't heard if we need to do one this year. Bet they give us about 2 days' notice - and i have 2 children at same school!

You can get little chicks wearing shades in Carlton Cards.
I used them last year on a cap for my then 4 yr old DS who really didn't want to wear a hat.
He thought they looked quite cool and more importantly not too girly

Thanks everyone - verona, chicks with shades on sounds cool - he will be happy with that.
Bunny ears are another idea I hadn't thought of, thanks fmv, tortoise and cariad( are you Califrau in disguise in honour of St David's day, or are you someone else?)

How about a bandana style head piece with a cool design on the fabric like bunnies in shades ?

I made a wall out of an old box, attached it to a hat and then added Humpty Dumpty on top when my son was 5. Folded up paper for arms and legs and a couple of bits of scrunched up tissue for grass. It looked great and he loved it.

For my other ds who was 5 (had to make 2 last year) bought a straw hat and stuck twigs around brim and band, yellow and brown tissue paper on top and then stuck some chicks and eggs on it.
Voila - a nest.
It looked really good.
However it took me about 5 hours of gluing twigs and adjusting bits so I wouldn't recommend it.
They will be wearing the same hats this year
