Candle making advice sought

I have been bought a candle making kit for Christmas. This is a craft I have never tried before.

The kit contains a big bag of wax chips, several wicks, some colorant , some perfume and a small plastic cylindrical mould.

While there are instructions for making 3 or 4 different designs these instructions seem to miss out what I would have thought was basic information and I wondered if anyone here could help.

  1. The instructions say to melt candle wax chips in a jam jar in a bain-marie. I am fine with that but what is not indicated is how much wax to use! If I use as many wax chips as would fill my intended mould would that be enough or should I allow some more?

  2. All the designs described in the instructions require you to either make a mould from packaging or use no mould at all. There are no instructions that use the mould supplied with the kit. If I decide to use this is there anything I need to do to make sure that I can get the candle out when it is set?

    Thanks
