What is this sort of fabric called?

I'm trying to buy some online, but can't figure out how to describe it! It's a textured fleece, but not 'fake fur' in that it isn't soft, more bobbly, if that makes sense. I've got a jumper & coat of it, a friend calls it 'muppet skin' and that's definitely the best description, but not going to help on ebay . . .

I don't think it has an actual google able name, I just googled textured fleece and it came up with what I think you're looking for.

Hmm, I've tried googling 'textured fleece fabric', and just get things like this, definitely not the 'hairy' effect ones

No, def not chenille fleece, it's much longer pile, rougher, not really soft at all. Maybe I just need to take a trip to a fabric shop with a bit of it - have tried trailing through online fabric websites and can't find any.

Still not there, sorry! All too soft n fluffy, not 'random' enough nor long enough. The fabric I'm looking for is kind of like this hoodie but with the fluffy bits much more all over, IYKWIM, rather than gaps between them.

It's quite funny, I thought I was being dense and someone would come on and say 'it's called X of course, how could you not know . . .'

I reckon that's been made to look like that through a specific washing process. I'm a pretty good googler and know my fabric but can I find that by the metre? Can I heck!

Can't you buy ordinary faux fur and wash it with something or other?

I think actually the key thing is the dye effect - both the pink and the grey are dark at the 'roots' then fade to white on the tips. I've made a mini-skirt from the pink piece, and someone described it as like a candy-floss skirt.

Anyway, no luck online, but a friend bought some similar a little while back from fabric shop near here, so going to try there. (Was just hoping to find a price online before I went so I'd have an idea if it was going to be too expensive as shop is run by my mum's friend, so it can be a little awkward . . .)

Mongolian fake fur isn't the same thing, but it looks great!

Not sure if you'll be able to get it with those keywords in the UK but there's some on Ebay us and other stores
