Bamboo knitting needles

i fancied trying these so went on ebay and see that they are usually sold in massive bundles. Is this because they break easily??!

I've never broken one, and they're absolutely lovely to knit with.

These were effectively £1.50 a pair and were short length which I fancy as they'll fit in my handbag :o does this mean they are basically sharpened chopsticks or will they be 'proper'?!

I like them too, but find they do have a tendency to split a bit at the tips, which then risks catching on the yarn. Lovely and light to handle, though, which might outweigh the drawbacks!

Firstly, it is not because they break although like their metal counterpoints the finer needles may bend. Occasionally the really fine DP needles (ie 2.5 or below) can split but whenever I buy a fine single set of DP needles I now coat them with clear nail varnish.

Bought singly they can be expensive and I think one of my best investments was buying a bumper bundle which sit in a vase by the fire for easy access.

I love working with them, less stress on your wrists and work does not slip so easily from the needles.

I've started using them, I also like how thecwork doesn't slip around! I think I'm converted...

I prefer bamboo needles. I bought a set from John Lewis with lots of different sizes. I have to be careful where I leave them though as DS2 sat on my size 3mm ones when I left my knitting on the sofa and snapped them!

my first needles were bamboo ones, and they are lovely to knit with. i find they are a bit easier on your fingers too

I broke a pair by kneeling on them :(. I think since then I have been less inclined to use them, as they "feel" more fragile. They are however really lovely to knit with, and don't make the clicky noise of metal. Hate plastic passionately, unless making something using a huge size.

I love bamboo needles but they can be broken quite easily - I have lost a couple in the boot of the car whilst taking them on holiday although that might just be due to DH's packing skills. Never bent a metal one though.

Rosewood is also nice - warm but a little bit stronger. Mine have quite a point on them though so they might not be great for certain types of knitting - it is easy to split the yarn with such a point.

My mum swears by her new square metal ones and she has very bad arthritis in her hands - they are even better than bamboo she thinks once you get passed the idea of square needles!
