Well am I?

I'm applied for loads of jobs recently for the first time in years and there seems to be this horrible attitude about not bothering to tell you if your applications been unsuccessful.

Why? How hard can it possibly be to send of a mail merge letter to the unsuccessful applicants with the modern computers in use today.

When did that become OK? And even worse, the ones who say "if you don't hear from us, you ain't got it" or words to that effect.

I spend around 1-2 hours on every single job application and it's too much trouble for employers to have the courtesy to even acknowledge me

famished YANBU to be upset/anoyed, it is soul destroying to send these things out that you have sweated over for hours and never hear anything.

However it is standard practice these days, jobs get so many applicants they'd never be doing anything except acknowledging, and it would be totally impossible for small companies. Like where I work 1 person does all HR payroll etc and she works part time and we usually get about 300 applications for each job. Just can't be done.

Sorry you're not having any luck though

unfortunately so many posts receive numerous applicants that it isnt possible or cost effective to individually reply

But they manage to send out the application forms OK, why is it a problem. It's just an excuse.

I always had replies when I was a school leaver and mail merge hadn't even been invented then, I'm that old

I have got a job, just it's not a very good one and I'd like a different one. Must be really really really awful if you haven't even got a job.
