AIBU?

to send an anonymous letter to an inconsiderate driver?

A lady who lives in a nearby road tailgated me most of the way home today.

I drove at 30 mph in 30mph zones and she was so close that I couldn't see the front of her car or the bonnett. I had my sons in the back so it made me even more cross.

When we got to a dual carriageway which was only 40 mph she sped past me making a yawning gesture as she passed!

I'm in two minds whether or not I should send an anonymous letter (because I don't want to enter into any further correspondence with her) saying:

  1. Please remember safe stopping distances and respect these.

lost the 2nd part of the post!

2) Speed limits are for everybody's safety.

AIBU to do this?

Very much doubt it would do any good, if she's brazen enough to drive like that, she's hardly going to lose slepp over a letter!!
yanbu tho, just wasting your time tbh.

don't bother just take the valves out of her tyres instead on halloween night.

The tailgating is bad enough but the yawning would really p me off.

It's the sort of thing I would come home and whinge at DH about then forget though. Sending a letter doesn't really give you any kind of conclusion because you won't even see her reaction.

Yes I do know where she lives - She has a personalised number plate on her flashy sports car which makes it easily recognisable!

I have to drive or walk past her house every time I go out. As I live further down the road (which is a dead end) than her, she would have no reason to go past our house so wouldn't know where I live!

YANBU, but I don't think it would do any good. She is clearly just a nob.

If it would make you feel better though, why not?

Don't bother writing her a nice polite letter - just paste extra-sticky stickers all over her windscreen saying "YOU DRIVE LIKE A TWAT".

That should get the message across

I just had to do the Drivers Awareness Course.. ahem instead of taking 3 points for being very slightly over the limit in a 30 zone.

They told us not to retaliate, and just to stick to what we are doing, cos idiots like her can distract us enough to hit someone in a 30 zone.

I was never a speed freak before this, car is an auto and it's hard to drive that slowly. Hard, but not impossible. I know, I've been really working hard ever since the notification came through my door. Now I do absolutely rigidly stick to it.

They played the Hit me at 40 advert, and broke it down bit by bit. I swear, I was welling up, fighting back the tears.

If we are doing 40 in a 30 and a child runs out in front of us, some 75 feet ahead, we slam on the brakes. When we reach the point we would have stopped if we were doing 30, we're still travelling at 29mph.

This is the equivalent of a driver going at 30mph, sees a child run out and only lifts their foot of the gas pedal...

The ExPolice Officer said that no accident where the impact was 25mph resulted in the victim actually surviving being hit.

If you know this woman and where she lives, and feel brave enough to do so, by all means tell her that her driving is dangerous. If she'd have hit and (most definately) killed someone that day, she'd be looking at a minimum of 2yrs inside and a lifetime of guilt.

Sorry for the rant/soap box, but it did move me to tears and I for one will never ever speed in a built up area again.

Oh yeah, and she's not inconsiderate, she's just out-and-out DANGEROUS.

Our local police and council run a scheme to report dangerous driving. Check with yours they may run one too. You had your DC in the car with you, this sort of behaviour is unacceptable.

Poison pen letters are wank and two wrongs don't make a right. That should answer your question.

I wouldn't get into anything with this woman, she will probably guess it is you. You might find yourself getting into a nasty neighbour situation when really, you could do without the stress.

Take deep breaths.
