I would like some opinions please. We live on the 9th floor in a block of flats. We have a small balcony.

Yesterday I came home from work to find 6 discarded ciggy ends and spat out chewing gum on my balcony.

This has happened a few times. My dh went upstairs to the tenant above us to ask her to get rid of the ends by putting them in the bin. That was about 3 weeks ago. About 2 weeks ago the tenant upstairs cleaned her balcony and then emptied the dirty water onto our balcony (she threw it over her balcony).

Do you think her behaviour is reasonable? I have contacted the management of the flats. They have taken photos and will be sending out letters. The management agent said 2 balconies had had small fires due to ciggy ends being thrown off balconys and landing on drying clothes.

Sorry this is so long. Do you think I am just being anal?

YANBU at all - but can't you move? People who behave like that can't (in my experience) be reasoned with. I would just get out before your whole life spirals into a battle with an ignorant (and dirty, disgusting, antisocial) neighbour. If you can't move... god, that's pretty awful to live with a neighbour like that.

Argh!

Oh, Deepest sympathies! I've so been there, but in DH country, so couldn't tell anyone anything, they wouldn't have known enough to have done any better anyway.. Not that this used to help me deal with it, it used to drive me INSANE!

I even had (God knows how) a saline drip bag on my balcony once.... [halloween WTF emoticon]

If you can talk to Management company let's hope they can do something.
YANBU

Upstairs neigbour's son (teenager) (or one of his pal's) flicked a lit fag out of his window which landed about 6 inches from my then one-year-old's head. I ran up those stairs in about 3 seconds, and gave him bollocking. HOWEVER I knew his mum would back me up, and I don't think I'd do it if it was a scary-type family. It's good they are a tenant though, surely more leverage to get them out.

Thanks for all the replies. I will see what happens over the next week. My dh commented she must think she is in Tudor times, throwing things off balconies.

YANBU OP. However, this is one of the problems you have if you live in a flat with a balcony.

I would move, persoanlly.

YANBU
My next door neighbour used to do this with his fag ends, empty cans and whisky bottles.
I threw them all back into his garden.
he doesn't do it any more.

YANBU in the slightest, that's horrible. I lived in a flat with 2 balconies for years and nothing like that ever happened. Glad to hear the management company is taking it seriously.

We cannot move as we have bought our flat, we love its location and we love the flat.

Funnily enough, this afternoon we received a mailshot from the man who runs the homewatch scheme. He has put some stuff in about throwing ciggy ends from the balcony (contravenes the rental agreement, and you can be kicked out).

So there must be other people who are bothered by this as well.

Thankyou for all your replies.

YANBU

That is horrible.

So glad I live on the top floor and no one's balcony is above ours.

Some of my neighbors seem to think it is ok to drop their rubbish in the communal halls, and it is impossible to know who's rubbish it is or I would put it by their front doors.
