hi , for the last few years we have always given the little ones on our road selection boxes at Christmas , this summer though we have had a huge row with our next door neighbours , they have been driving us mad for the last 4 years & it all came to a head this summer , but i have seen her talking to other neighbours & now 2 of the other neighbours barely say hello to us whereas other neighbours have told me that they have seen what has been going on & are surprised we have put up with things for so long , my dilemma is now do we keep up giving out the selection boxes or should we just stop , i would hate for the children to be disappointed though , sorry its probably more of a WWYD than aibu ,

Rise above it, give the selection boxes. Its not the kids fault, and you dont want to stoop to their petty level.

stop - kids eat too much chocolate anyway

give only to your particular friends

give the kids the boxes, like ilove says its not their fault. pluss it may go someway to repairing the relationship!

I agree with Stripeysocks, its not the kids fault. Give only if you want to give though, defeats the object of a gift in my eyes if you are only doing cos you've always done it or feel obliged to.

i would like to still give the kids the boxes as we have always done it but I'm worried that the neighbours might think we are just trying to keep them sweet (NO PUN INTENDED) when its not like that at all , its purely for the kids sakes

if the fall out with the neighbours is that bad, surely they wont let their kids accept your sweets?

Biggirls - do you have children and is it a reciprocal thing?

hi squishabelle , yes we do have dc's , & yes it is mostly a reciprocal thing although not always but that's not why we do it , just feel that this year it might look like we are trying to win people over when that's not it at all iyswim , dammed if we do or dammed if we don't situation , my eldest dc 10 goes around handing them out , he loves doing it ,

If its something you have done in previous years wont it make relations with the other 2 sets of neighbours frostier if you suddenly stop?
If its something your DS wants to still do I would still do it.

thanks amazing yes ds loves doing it makes him feel all grown up , the other 2 neighbours still wave hello & then go in doors whereas before would always come over for a chat , but i am still going to let ds do his little job this xmas ,

give the boxes and use it as a way to get over the row and move on

Initially I was going to say no, but I think you should let your DS carry on with his job as he enjoys it.

Rise above it and hold your head high

yes girlafraid your right , the row only involved next door nothing to do with the other neighbours , it just feels like they have taken sides ,
will carry on with the tradition for the kids sakes though
