yes, and I hate it when people describe themselves as "slightly OCD" about things.

Are you anal about this perhaps?

(Maybe we need an Am I Being Anal topic.)

No, YANBU - I really hate that. DO they not know what they are saying?? It seems to an accepted mainstream saying and I just find it quite repulsive (and I'm not a prude by any means).

I hate people boasting about being anal/ocd about frigging housework!
a) you almost certainly do not have OCD...it is flippant and ignorant to imply that hoovering your carpet twice a day is comparable to having it and b) it does not mean you are a better mother/housewife (whatever you think) as no one really gives a toss about the lack of dust on yoiur skirting boards or your super-clean bog.
They really don't!

I think anal is quite a good description, tbh.

You know yourself when you cringe about something - it sort of makes your bottom clench, along with a sharp intake of breath and eyelid fluttering. I am happy to admit that, anyway.

I think it's a vile thing to say. Also isn't it short for "anally retentive" which is something to do with Freud? Or have I just got this wrong for years?

I have no idea if it has something to do with Freud but agree it's vile. I don't want my attention drawn to anyone's bumhole thank you very much.

Yep, it's anally retentive Tiger. One of Freud's stages of development.

I'm guilty as charged as describing myself as anal on occasion. Sometimes it's the only word that can justify my carrying on

God yes it's foul, I hate it too.

I also hate "arsehole".

Yes it is to do with Freuds stages of psychosocial development. During the anal stage of development, during potty training if the child does not want to let go and holds it in, as adults they will be anal retentive( obsessive about things, uptight that kind of thing, will have to consult my psychology books for more detail), if during the pottytraining they let go of their wee/pooh, they are described as being anal expulsive and will be more easy going as adults. No i dont like the prase anal though not nice
