AIBU?

to think that some people are petty and pathetic

Friend called other friend (to be known as friend2) to tell her she's so upset with friend 3 for forgetting her birthday a couple of days ago. No card, no call, no text or facebook greeting (!).

Friend 3 had a baby 4/5 weeks ago. 3rd child, not sleeping. Finding occasional opportunity to e.g. update facebook status with comments such as 'i forgot newborns = no sleep' which is an irritant for other friends. Woe betide said friend if she frequents Mumsnet.

Friend 2 texted her to say, you forgot and friend is upset. Friend 3 replied that didn't forget but not got round to it yet. And what exactly is unreasonable about that? Lots apparently as friend 2 tried to draw me in to bitch when she should be focusing her energy on leaving the office at 8.45pm rather than hanging around to have pointless debate which I was uninterested in (until now because the whole non issue is so ridiculous and happens at least once a year at one of their birthdays and often same happens to me but i just get on with it).

Some people are rubbish at remembering dates and to be honest I had to practically write friend's birthday on my forehead to remember to call while juggling errands and one child, never mind 3! We are 29 years old, not 5 (and not 30 when perhaps there would be some slight justification to wish someone well done for completing another decade)

Sick of all this pettiness and ready to put everyone in their place (except for poor sleep deprived friend).

(waiting impatiently for mumsnetters to tell me how wrong i am for disagreeing with the silliness which i tell you will drive me to dispair even more).

Some people think the world revolves around them. You sound ready to explode!

I don't think you're being unreasonable.. I am often a bit late with friends' birthdays, and they with mine, and sometimes forget people I would normally remember altogether (my favourite trick is to buy cards weeks in advance, then forget all about it...). Friend and Friend 2 need to grow up...

Biccy I have the same trick. Even have a father's day card addressed and stamped still sitting in the bottom of my handbag

actually I think friend 2 is being a bit of a selfish cow by doing that, friend 3 just had a baby?! What kind of mate would be so unthoughtful! None of my mates would ever do anything like that, or they would no longer be friends.

YANBU - its petty. Good job my friends aren't like Friend and Friend 2 as I am crap at birthday and christmas cards...often write then but rarely post them.

what is it with adults who make their birthdays such a big thing? i just don't get it. i'd be put out if my parents or my dh didn't send a card or ring or something. other than that, i do not expect anyone to remember. why would i?! nuts...
