Argh! baby is due in 4 weeks and I have a 36-mo and a 21-mo. No family in this country, although mum is coming over for a month.

So I am trying to make double quantities every time i cook, so that I have a good stash of freezer meals, to save me cooking when bub arrives.

And dh just keeps having 2nd helpings and leaving nowt to freeze!!!

Last night - lemon chicken. 6 chicken legs. 2 for dh last night, one each for the dcs for tonight and then 2 for the freezer to feed the dcs at a later stage.

I served up dh's meal and I KNOW i gave him 2. He then cleared up the kitchen and clearly snaffled an extra one. So now I am left with 1 chicken leg, which he may as well eat too, because what's the point in freezing it??

So Same thing happened with a shepherd's pie the other day - the bit that he left would have served a doll. An anorexic one.

Have you explained to him why you cook more or is he just assuming you are trying to fat him up for the winter?

I would be ennoyed too BTW!

yes, it's all been explained to him. In a slightly virtuous, superior, aren't-I-a-fabulous mother/wife/general all-rounder sort of way, to be fair. But that's not the point.

Just tell him to fill up on veg or bread and butter or else he will have to do all the cooking when the baby comes.

I never did the freezing thing. I just cooked each night or DH did it when I didn't want too.

Must be your fault for cooking such delicious and irresistable meals ;)

I would just give up. I did years ago. If there is food DH (and now DS) will eat it.

Get yourself some takeaway menus instead.

Stick the stuff for freezing in the tupperware before you dish up the meals and put it somewhere hidden until it's cooled enough to freeze.

If it's not out looking tempting on the sideboard, it won't shouldn't get eaten

Greedy bugger.

What about getting some of those tin foil containers (pound shops have them) and put the amount you want to freeze straight into one of those. Then he can't say he didn't realise.

yes, I would put it in the tupperware before he had a chance to snaffle it. is there anywhere you can hide it while it's cooling down before you put it in the freezer? I totally sympathize- I have to hide any kind of snack-related food I bring into the house or Dh scarfs the whole lot in one go, leaving me barely enough to get stuck in my teeth!

he's not even doing it on purpose, probably - he's just such a mindless eater. I've seen him put food on the spoon to give to one of the dcs, back in the spoon-feeding days, and then just put it in his own mouth.

you;re right though - I'll stash it before he sees it.

Takeaway menus no good - these meals are (meant to be) for the dcs, since they eat 5.30pm-6ish - long before dh is home to help - and I'm just trying to make those days when 'having 3 aged 3 and under' is all too much a bit more manageable. He can pick up a pizza on the way home for all I care. Not quite sure what/ when/ how I will eat but hey, the quicker the baby weight comes off the better, right??

this is where you threaten him. If he has second helpings without checking you will cut his todger off.

My brother is a devil for this. I cooked up a kilo of mince in bolognese, myself and DS had a portion and I put a portion in a dish in the microwave for DS2. The rest was left to cool. When DB came in I said if he wanted some to reheat what was in the microwave. He never listens to ALL of a conversation and I think he just heard 'reheat'... so he boiled up the whole panful and helped himself. When I came back downstairs there was hardly any left, not any worth freezing. It was an expensive meal

He hates veg so will always say "oh yes I'll have lots of meat". I've started to tell him he will have a PORTION, not overdose on meat to fill up coz he wont eat veg
