Sil has just been chating on the phone to Dh for about an hour & apparently she has stoped bf her Dd (8mths old)& says I should do the same. My Dd is 18mths and we are quite happy bf.

She says that if we all get the dreaded swine flue then my Dd will end up making me more unwell by bf.
To be honest I wouldnt care as long as she was getting comfort from me!!!

Also had a long talk about Dds bedtime.
Dd is a little monkey going to bed so dont mind advise but it just rubbed me up the wrong way as i've been a mum for 8.5yrs and shes only been one for 8mths

Am i beeing a dick to be [humm] ?

Folk always like to stick their noses in to other folks business. Some people class themselves as experts after a few short months of parenthood......who cares what she or any one else thinks? As long as you and your family are happy then thats all that matters!

She is talking crap.

It would annoy me too.

Thinking it, reasonable.

Screaming it at her, unreasonable.

She should probably realise that different parents do different things with regard to bedtime, stopping bf, and countless other things, and just because she thinks her way is right, doesn't make it so for everyone else.

I'm pretty sure I have pissed people off in the past with inadvertant advice and after 8.5 years I'm fairly sure you have probably done the same. Its not always easy to know what buttons get pressed on other people. She is a bit of a fool but hey ho.

On a scale of 1 to 10 of being offended this would probably register 0.5. If you don't otherwise like her then by all means make a big thing of it, otherwise I would drop it.

Don't mean to sound harsh but sometimes on this website it seems as though it is too easy to get wound up by this kind of thing.

It is typical of a certain type of person that they think that the time to stop breastfeeding is when THEY did. Could be two months, could be six or eight, but anyone who feeds longer than them is obviously a freak..

thanks.
i'm tempted to do the same back but will try to avoid.
some folk seem to have a problem with me still bf & it pi**es me off cos i'm not doing it for myself!

"as i've been a mum for 8.5yrs and shes only been one for 8mths"

Actually that bit in particular would annoy the sh*t out of me! How very dare she presume to know better

I do wonder what the motivation of your DH was about telling you this. Don't think my dh would have told me if it had been something that he knew would upset me as he wouldn't want to put a wedge between my sil and I.
Just wondering, is he trying to tell you something through what she is saying? Is he as happy about your DDs sleep and whether it is related to BF?

she is really a nice person and i enjoy her company so wont fall out with her.

Keep that one in your head then kinnies! I often have to bite by tongue with the ILs.

You should see my MIL/SIL faces about the fact that I am a (gasp) working mother! But they are so sweet otherwise I give them that one as a freebie!
