it's on Thursday (all day) and the forecast is for 33C. AIBU in thinking that if their primary school don't postpone it that I should keep the DCs at home?? I know I am but {paranoid mummy emoticon} I'm worried they (and I as I have to go ) may pass out in the heat as will be outside all day.

Normally sports day is postponed cos it's raining and I have a whinge about a bit of rain not hurting anyone but I think I'd prefer that than this blooming heat!!

I teach in a secondary and our sports day is a big event, we all gather on the lawn to watch and sit in the sun all day. I nagged all my tutor group to bring in sunhats, water and suncream, which they mostly did ( this was for 15 year olds!!) We also had water stands and I bought in spare hats and suncream.

If they have water, hat and cream they should be fine. Your children will feel very left out if you keep them at home.

If it's too hot surely the school will cancel the sports day and just have lessons as normal!

Badger the school to hire gazebos for the kids (you'll just have to fry )

have you asked the school what plans they have in place, some may have a gazebo and drinks area for time in the shade? You need to know what they are doing before you decide to not let them take part.

Make sure you are following all the general advice about keeping covered, sun cream and hats and they will be fine.

all day is long

ours is friday 1-3 - so just after lunch

would have thought make more sense to have it 9-11 before sun gets too high, and not when it is the hottest part of the day and when their tummys are full up

i predict lots of throwing up!!

dont wish for rain, remember last years summer, and bad weather - and the umbrella song was no 1 for weeks - a bad omen

the sch i taught at cancelled sports day half way through a few yrs ago as got mega hot and sent all kids back to classes, having compressed all the groups as only competitors allowed out. head didnt want to get sued for heat sroke etc so i think sensible decisioins will be made. ring sch and ask if they have a plan in place for too hot a day, usual to have a back up day planned.
