To not want to be pounced on by Chuggers outside our school

I live close to the school, and one of them knocked on my door about 2.30 - then when I walked up to collect DS1 they were all hanging about outside the school asking parents if they would like to donate to a deaf childrens charity.

I dont think the school knew they were there, and when some people complained the head came out and moved them on.

It's a crap strategy anyway - they'll never get busy mums to stop on the way out of school.

I can't really blame them for their attempts to guilt trip parents (charities are really suffering, along with everyone else at the moment), but I do find their shiny bright 20 year-old faces a bit irritating ......

Ah i've told it before but somebody from a physical disablement charity told me that my kids weren't disabled (sorry Ic ant donate, i have 2 autistic kids) as they werent in wheelchairs.

I think he works for the DLA part time as well

YANBU. yes charities matter a lot and they ahve to get funds, but also the staff (I have been a fundraiser- though not the clipboard and percentage variant) know that people are having a ahrd time of it and the bright ones are the ones who can work out ways around that like clothes swaps otr whatever

I can't bear chuggers. I can't bear the pseudo-flirting they do to get people to stop and talk. I can't bear the fact that they're usually the 'middle-class white boy with dreadlocks' type. I can't bear the fact that a polite 'no thanks' gets you nowhere (not that that's unique to chuggers, by any means)

I would rather give my money to a tin-shaking Salvation Army bod.

I have to admit I was very very rude to the woman who blocked me from getting out of WH Smiths the other week,

She was determine i'll give her that but as it has not been a very good time for me and she was not going to take my polite not today thank you for an answer I ended up in a loud voice telling her there was a rescission on, I was just about feeding my own children and maybe if people in Africa could not do the same they should stop having them, then I stormed off, leaving her open mouthed.

My sister was having tests to see if her cancer is back, it is and it has spread, my car blew up, My mother was unwell, I was trying to work out how to move money from place to place to cover bill and thats just for starters, so I think I had enough on my plate without some stupid bitch trying to get money out of me.

I don't think that chuggers should be allowed to do the signing up to a direct debit thing in public places so agressively. I don't mind collecting tins.

I actually do have a direct debit to a charity, but I did it of my own free will, not via a chugger!

YANBU. DD2 was stopped by one while she was in town. They asked her to give some money towards an animal charity. When she said sorry I haven't got any money because I haven't got a job. The lady said well get one then. DD2 had just been round town giving her CV to various shops and she'd also been to the job centre.

There used to be a very aggressive chugger in the centre of Leeds, dressed in a stripey hair-shirt, knitted out of llama hair half way up a Peruvian mountain & he used to harangue you if you didn't hand over money. When I told him I didn't have any money, in fact I had minus amounts of money (impoverished student), he shouted after me "Yeah, but you can afford to shop in WHSmiths!" lol

WH Smith is where the post office is, had to pay my mothers rent in there.
Only reason I was there

It was WARM! Leeds in winter is brrrr! Had arranged to meet dh there. 'Course I was too embarrassed to say to the chugger, would sounded like she doth protest too much. In hindsight I had loads of witty retorts. I wonder if he's still there or whether he's sold out and now drives a Merc.
