AIBU?

To not want our friend feeding our 5 month old crisps?

He's not even 6 months old yet. I puree his food which is veg, chicken, potato, baby sauces etc. Our friends give their 5 month old quavers, wotsits, chips, sausage, anything they eat, he has his own bag of. And now she thinks I'm horrible because she tried to feed it to DS and I said no. She asked what I feed him and I told her and she said to him really sarcastically 'oh arn't you just such a good boy'.

Or am I being PFB?

OF course YANBU - but some self righteous bugger on here will tell you that you are a terrible mother for weaning before 6 months

No, you are absolutely right. Quavers and whotsits are very high in salt, far more than his kidneys should have to cope with at this age.
Indeed you will probably be jumped on by MNers who think you shouldn't even wean a day before he turns 6 months and that weaning should be baby led with handheld foods rather than purees- I am too old to hold to either of these two (but defo not old enough for the whotsits )

she sounds like a cow - 'friend'? I don't have conversations in tones like that with my friends...

I wouldnt worry. YANBU. My ex MIL used to do this to me. I would pick up ds from her and ask what he had eaten. she repeatedly fed him chocolate, crisps and things that I considered totally unsuitable. I asker her not to and she kept doing it. She doesnt see him anymore becuase her bahaviour with ds became out of control but now Im going off the beat and track. Basicly he is your child and by the sounds of it your doing well! Dont listen to your friend.

Haven't babies died from salt over doeses?

Your friend sounds like a nutter. She'll probably be serving beer at hher DC's 5th birthday party.

And not just to the adults.

Sounds like she's setting her son up for some serious ill health, that's way too much fat and salt for such a young baby.

Stick to your guns - I started weaning dd on veg/fruit purees and baby cereals and now (at 19 months) she eats similar meals to us and a wide variety of food, but at 6 months old I would rather have smashed my own toes with a hammer than feed her wotsits etc and I'm a bit that anyone would think that was a good diet for a baby.

lol Pollyblue. I think exactly the same as you. Smash my toes, have a tarantula lay eggs in my ear. I eat healthily anyway so when he goes on to our food he'll be eating healthy and just have things as a treat. I think it's a strange way to think to want to feed a baby total junk.

Eh? How does a 5 mo baby eat a sausage???

LOL at thought of OP's friend pureeing sausages, chips and quavers with one of those little hand held blender things. Yum.

But seriously.... Why don't you tell your friend that her baby will end up in hospital or worse if she gives him that sort of food.

Personally I think, regardless of what anyone else thinks of the rights and wrongs of weaning at 5 months or giving children wotsits etc he is YOUR son and YOU have the right to decide what he eats and when. No one has the right to feed your son anything even if it's the healthiest thing in the world and he's 5 years old.
