I used to be left wing and believe in rehabilitation. But a friend of mine was sexually assaulted recently by a guy who has been caught and convicted multiple times but is still allowed to roam the streets.

here

I actually don't think they should have pursued the extradition line because that wouldn't really have solved the problem if he had been british.

Do you think the law would be stricter if there were more women law makers / enforcers?

I want to believe in rehabilitation. I have, unfortunately, seen a couple of instances where it hasn't worked but I don't know enough about the process really.

I imagine sex related crimes would be stricter but I don't know about the rest. My politics lecturer used to say that women, in general, become more conservative in their thinking as they get older but I do tend to find that women (the ones I know at least) are more hopeful of rehabilitation than the men I know.

Sorry about your friend

yes i remember a politics lecturer telling me that once.as far as i remember it was most people in general became more conservative but women more so because a higher percentage of men would already have been considered conservativ. something to do with being young and having nothing makes it very easy to be liberal but whe you grow oldr and want to protect your lot conservatism is more appealling.

As I said, I don't know a lot about the prison and rehabilitation service but from what I do know, I imagine sex offenders are the most difficult to rehabilitate and in cases like this I cannot find an argument to continue to attempt to reform such a person.

Yes, Mayor, I think it was to do with that. I must admit, whilst I would not consider myself a Conservative, I find that my views are gradually becoming more conservative as I grow older. Still consider myself a liberal though, I used to be practically a communist!

i second you, bronze, about Gabrielle Browne- she's amazing.

I think I do beleive in rehabilitation really but I don't understand why we don't do something about people who are repeat offenders and judged to be highly likely to offend again by the home office. another news article on him

I do believe in the principle that you shouldn't be punished for something you haven't yet done. But once you have been convicted I thought the judge could pick an appropriate sentence based on past history - but they clearly don't.
