he is offering to give me stronger pain killers for my sciatica and then in the next breath saying but the problem with these are they may be harmful to the baby or the baby may develop a dependancy to them. I asked if him he had read my notes and knew that i had had a stillbirth just before I Christmas and that I wouldn't do anything to harm the baby! Maybe I'm just being oversensitive!!

yabu he offered you pretty much full disclosure and the benefit of his professional medical advice.
if he'd advised the pills and not warned you of the possible side effects knowing your past then he'd be unreasonable.
as it is he simply provided you with all the relevant information and then you can decide for yourself.

sorry that sounded cold.
i can get why you might be "over-sensitive" given your recent trauma. i was just trying to give an objective perspective. not a judgment on your behaviour

I think he probably meant well but perhaps didn't phrase it correctly.
Basically (IMO) he is offering you the option but then telling you the risks, some people would take those risks (did he say the percentage etc?)
When I had an epidural (for example) they had to tell me that it could go wrong (and to keep still!) but at the time I didn't care - which was perhaps selfish, but my decision.
