AIBU?

and a verbaudet fool or should 'a child's CD player' mean just that..

Got a flyer from verbaudet with an offer as follows:
Spend £20 and get a free 'The little DJ Child's CD player', £15 discount and free delievry and returns.

Am very excited by this offer as about to try and find a kids CD player for DD2 and like a bargain. When the parcel arrived I opened it to find that the CD player was a toy one. Ie it 'plays' little plastic discs not real CDs. Felt very very foolish. To be clear I was expecting a real CD player designed for kids ie chunky buttons all plastic etc.

Returned to the flyer again to work out what I must have missed. On the front it says 'The little DJ Child's CD player', picture of child with the player, it looks like a CD version of those plastic tape recorders you can get Inside there is a picture of the player, with one of it's discs but you can not tell the scale of either player or disc (in reality very small) or the fact the disc is plastic. It does say inside 'comes with 5 mini CDs' but again these exist in real life and it nowhere does it say that these are small plastic circles.

Verbaudet customer services sent me the standard response insterested in your views blaa blaa . I know there has been some chat about this offer on MN and so now I want to know, did everyone else get that this was a toy CD player not a real one and am I just a bit of an idiot.

I got the flyer about it and think I read somewhere on it that it doesn't play ordinary CD's, so I didn't order one.
But that bit was in small print, and the picture was very deceiving, so I can see how you thought it was a proper kids CD player.

To put it gently (and in your own terms), "You are a bit of an idiot".

I got that flyer (quite a while ago now - are they still doing it?), and did work out that it wasn't a proper CD player, but it took a couple of read-throughs.

The intention did seem to be to (mis)lead you into believing it is a genuine CD player.

I remember thinking at the time that it was a dodgy piece of marketing. TBH, I'm not surprised that is what you thought, and don't for a moment suppose that you are the only one.

Well done for complaining to them.

Never occurred to me it wouldn't be a toy - just reminded me of the fisher price record players

From my flyer :-

'With 5 mini CDs and fun flashing lights, your chld will love bopping to the beat with this fantastic toy!'

Nt sure if everyone's flyer has the same description.

We've got it and ds loves it, in fact we're listening to it right now.

They say 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth', so I think you're being a little bit ungrateful tbh, as it was free and you also got £15 of goods free AND free postage. I thought it was a fantastic offer.

(I don't work for Vertbaudet, by the way)

I think you were very silly to have thought it would be anything BUT a toy
but I will say that I think they are trying to mislead silly people

So does it play music from the little plastic discs? I must admit that when I first saw this I thought like you that it was a real CD player, and then reading it again last week, I saw that it only played 'mini CDs' - but I did assume that it was a real CD player, just one that would only play the CDs that came with it. It's NOT very clear on the leaflet though, so well done for complaining. I have to say that all the other stuff we've had for free from Vertbaudet has been very good - a tent for the garden, a wooden pairs game etc.

I have seen the leaflet and assumed it was a toy. You are indeed an idiot, lol. Tbh, I can't believe you were so annoyed about this that you contacted customer services!

I'm always extra doubtful about items that say "kids" I know someone who bought a "kids" laptop on ebay and whilst the buyer thought it was an actual laptop suitable for kids he got a play laptop. His feedback was positive but his comment said something like "I thought this was an actual laptop, description wasn't clear but didn't actually lie. My own fault for taking it at face value" He paid £50 which was great for a laptop but painful for a toy one!
Sorry you got stung!

Op hardly got stung dingdong05, it was free.

I get lots of the dc's clothes from vertbaudet. Their money off codes are fantastic, their free gifts are shite.

However they are, and i can't say this often enough free, I save them for long car journeys as a novelty.

I got the above mentioned cd player btw, and believe me it is loads better than the one they were sending out 2 years ago, that really was crap.

Fair enough, am idiot! I did indeed end up with 2 items from them, and a toy.... for £9.99 so its not that I dont think it was a good value offer, just not, in retrospect, an ASTONISHINGLY good offer. I think the fact I was looking for a real one sent me into over excited mode, will be reading the small print veeeerrry careful in future.

I got this too. I haven't even opened it as I ordered a maternity dress which said it was made of "fleece" and it came and it was a very non stretchy ugly shaped sweater material dress. So I'm sending it back. I personally think all La Redoute stuff and alot of Verbaudet stuff is a load of crap. I've not had anything nice from there as a adult apart from a pair of sunglasses. Some of the kids stuff has been ok. But the other free gifts I've had have been a load of plastic tosh. I wouldn't have expected a proper cd player and would've expected a cheapy plasticy one.

From my experience, Vertbaudet's money-off offers are often very good. The free/cheap toys rarely live up to expectations.

Next time, hang on until they send you a 20% off voucher. I've just got DD a lovely winter coat for a lot less than advertised!

Always expected it to be a toy and actually it has been well used and loved by DS! Very popular.

Bit barmy to complain that your free gift wasnt good enough

I have just placed and order using the same code; waiting for delivery. I assumed the free gift wiuld be some small plastic toy TBH; after al it is free. Most freeies, esp when being given along with a big money off saving, would be plastic tat surely?
