AIBU?

To want home movies to stay 'at home'

My DH recently bought a video camera to capture dd's babyhood etc. I get it out regularly and as she cant talk I add stupid voiceovers to make them a little more entertaining in years to come.

MIL is a tad obsessed with dd, which gets on my goat slighty as she had little to do with us prior to dd. Suited me fine, lovely woman, I know gps have a right to dote but it kind of freaks me out.

Anyway I digress, for her (mil) b'day last week dh compiles a little dvd of most video clips to date, including one of me in my bikini on holiday which went on to include dd.

I make the videos for dd and us, not for anyone else. I'm happy to show some to family when they visit us, but am not happy about burning them to dvd and sending them off (lives in another country)regularly. I just imagine her getting it out every night and gazing at the screen (trust me, she is overly obsessed).

I told dh to feel free to take his own video and burn and send but not mine with stupid commentry and bikini shots. AIBU?

[Hmmm], I'll let him send some so, if he takes out the bikini shot.

Yearns is not the word. going home this w/e so she will see her then. It's when she refers to her as 'my' baby etc that drives me insane. I know gps can be like that, but Ive always backed off from people who are 'all about me' and unfortunately this time it's the MIL.

I can see your point. I try to vet all photos of me that dh sends to his parents but last time he just transferred all of this years from our computer onto FIL's memory stick
The whole year - including very embarrassing photos of me on best friends hen night, photos of me asleep in bed etc etc

It's not unreasonable to decide which family photos of your family you want people to see as long as you give MIl loads of your dd imo

My MiL is also besotted with my DS2 (her first gc) she takes reams of pictures of him, normally sat on my lap whilst I'm talking to someone and look rough as shit.
I hate the pictures but wouldn't be too bothered, I love the fact that she loves DS so much.

I think that was actually a lovely present for your dh to give his mother- though agree I wouldn't be too happy about a bikini shot.
If she lives abroad i take it she doesn't get to do all the normal granny things (like 'popping' in on the one day u still happen to be in your pj's at 2pm!). Maybe by sharing some dvd's with her ur dh is letting her feel more involved in ur dd childhood?

I think that the solution is to have two sets of films - one for public consumption and one just for your family. I can completely understand your ILs wanting pictures and videos of your DD, but I have to admit that I try to be the one in our family to send stuff to the GPs so that I can vet it thoroughly.

Slavemum, it wouldnt be popping around, I think she would move in .

Her mother brought up her 4 boys as she had to work so I cant help feel that she sees this as her chance. Various comments as to how I could send dd to them for the summer they are happy to come on hols with us - never , that's never going to happen.

I do have to remind myself that she is also a relative, and she has 4 sons and no dd of her own... Inlaws, I could do without 'em

It's never going to happen, a weekend now and then suits me just fine. I tailor the holiday to suit dd, we stay local (Ireland or France) and eat early. All too soon she will be grown up and not want to come, she is 9 mths and every day gets bigger and bolder.

Thanks for the perspective folks, dvd with sanctioned clips being made tommorrow night for presentation Friday evening!
