AIBU?

To let unrealistic Post Natal thread names get on my wick

(I suspect I am being irrational, but here goes...)

Have deliberately not joined a PN thread for exactly this competitive parental comparing. However, when they pop in Active convos, I inwardly grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

JUL 08 - Gosh now they're sitting up!!

JUN 08 - Choking down the solids

NOV 07 - Reading Tolstoy already

You know what I'm saying, like?

I hide the topics.

Much, much less painful that way.

Oblomov · 28/07/2008 14:57

Had it ever occured to you, that they are a bit tongue in cheek, and not competitive at all ?
I don't know that, becasue I have never been on one, but surely they are nice ?

Report
scorpio1 · 28/07/2008 14:58

i like my pn thread, we are not competitive.

Report
Gateau · 28/07/2008 14:59

I agree; it's REALLY boring. I mean, who do they think is interested? It's just about as bad as the 'nicknames' thread on here. "What nicknames do you call your LOs." barf!! I mean, who the feck wants to know?
The stories about the funny things babies/toddlers/kids do are much better.
The RL postnatal conversations are much worse, though. At least the teller can't see your eyes glaze over on MN.

kiskidee · 28/07/2008 15:00

has it occurred to you that if you are reading other people's PN threads then you are spending way too much time on MN?

i figure they are largely for the same people from the antenatal threads just happy to stay together and chat about babies since most people IRL will just glaze over.

Report
kittywise · 28/07/2008 15:01

But they're not writing them for anyone else. They are for the group sharing experiences of babies of that age.
YABU

SirJimmy - YABU. it's the heat. It's making us all a bit cross.

I kind of know what you mean, but I think it is tongue in cheek and it's to liven up the otherwise dull April 07 babies I guess.

Report
Gateau · 28/07/2008 15:02

Probably kisidee. But if the Op is irritated by it, then she's irritated by it. That's her point.

Report
BouncingTurtle · 28/07/2008 15:02

YABU - don't read them, if you find them annoying.

Miserable old grump.

Report
SirJimmySeville · 28/07/2008 15:03

No, actually it hadn't remotely occurred to me that they were tongue in cheek.

Yes, yes, yes I know they are friendly supportive places and probably not that competitive on the thread innards etc.

And I know, I am almost certainly BU, but just wondered if anyone shared my (possibly deranged) view too. That's why I posted here.

Gateau, what a load of tosh.
Of course it is boring. To eveyone else in the world apart from those ladies that are on those threads.
I mean I am on an antenatal one, now. Hopefully once our babies are born, I will continue to be on A PN one, with the ladies , that I have so enjoyed their company. And we will still have alot in common.
but I am sure these threads are f**k boring, to everyone, other than those tht have given birth in the same month.
YOU are not supposed to read them.

SirJimmySeville · 28/07/2008 15:05

Oh and I don't read them, that's the point. I occasionally see the thread titles and think - huh!??!!??

Shitehawk stole my name.

That's all you need to know, folks.

If you don;t like a thread, why not hide it/ I don;t see PH threads, tis bliss.

It's easy, see?

Report
Oblomov · 28/07/2008 15:07

Even to an outsider, the Tolstoy one makes me laff.
Like the advert, I assume.

Report
MrsBadger · 28/07/2008 15:07

YABU - hide the whole topic like I do

Personally I found the antenatal threads full of people whose only thing in common was having had a shag within four weeks of each other.

If you dont like it, dont friggin read it. No-one is forcing you. What right have you to say these people can't announce how proud they are of their LO's. YAB Very U.

Hise hide hide! That's my sage advice to you, my plumptious

YOU are talking a lot of tosh, Oblomov, since you're not a postnatal yet. SO don;t come the high and mighty - and be rude - about something you haven't experienced.
And for your information, I don't read them on here. I am talking about the RL convos, as I've been party to them. Get your facts right before spouting.

Report
Oblomov · 28/07/2008 15:13

I have viewed them Gateau. I am entiteled to.
Because this is my second child. So check your facts aswell.

Report
EffiePerine · 28/07/2008 15:14

surely the point is that the people on your ante/postnatal threads are the ONLY ones who care about your pg/young baby minutiae?

You should be thankful we're not clogging up the main boards with this stuff

hang on...

Report
SheikYerbouti · 28/07/2008 15:16

Look, lets not get inot this now (again)

If you don;t like them HIDE THE FARKING TOPIC AND SHUT UP.
