To not want him anywhere near my baby?

I'm not sure if this is in the correct place so apologises if it isn't. I'm new here. Me and my boyfriend are "young parents". We don't live with each other yet. Today I saw him and he had a bruise on his face, I asked him what happened and at first he said nothing but then he told me that his dad was drunk last night and asked him to get him more alcohol and he said no so his dad punched him and told him that our baby is 'unlucky' to have him as his dad. He told me he doesn't know if he wants to report him to the police. I don't want him anywhere near my son but WIBU to stop him?
