AIBU?

Anyone ever torn a ligament in their wrist?

I tripped up the stairs at the start of last week, put my hand out and bent it right back on impact. The pain is excruciatingBlush had it x-rayed due to swelling/bruising and being unable to move it, but definitely no break. They decided it was most likely a torn ligament, and advised to wear a splint

It’s absolute agony. It hurts with the splint on, it hurts without the splint. I’ve been putting ice packs on regularly, as well as deep heat and ibuprofen gel. Also been taking ibuprofen as often as I can, but there is just no let up of the pain. It’s constant, throbbing pain with frequent shooting pain along my arm, which is leaving me on the verge of tears all day as there’s just no relief from it. All information seems to suggest it can take anywhere up to 10 weeks to stop hurting. Someone please tell me it will get better soon, or make me feel better with stories of how you coped with it!?

I did this with my ankle recently.

If they are sure there is no break, then it really is a case of rest, ice, compression, elevation. Can take about 6-8 weeks.

I empathise, it is painful!

I still have a dodgy wrist & I broke it back in 2009. Ruptured a ligament at the same time. Are you able to speak to your doctor to get some decent pain relief?

@MagicKingdomDizzy it was x-rayed from quite a few different (very painful) angles, and they said they definitely couldn’t see any sign of a break but that it would be reviewed by a consultant and they’d call if they spot anything unusual. Haven’t heard anything so assuming it’s all fine. I broke my ankle just before Christmas and it was nothing like this painBlush

@bubblemonkey I think I might have to! When I rang them last week they just said to keep wearing the splint and take ibuprofen, but now a week later it’s just as painful so hopefully they’ll give me something
