To ask for help with a cover note?

I have asked this in chat, but haven't received any response...It is a bit boring I suppose
I'm applying for jobs, most are asking for a cover note/letter along with a CV. I have a CV all good to go, I just don't know what to put on a cover note, Back in the day, I would just put availability and how soon I can start the position, Is this still the case? All other info is on my CV so I would just be repeating myself. Any tips please? Oh, also, How easy is it to do a generic cover note as I will be applying for different roles i.e Retail work. Reception work, Maybe even catering, so pretty broad. TIA

Best advice I can offer is to use that note to sell yourself for the particular role you’re applying for. Tell them why you’re interested and what you bring to the role - not the experience set out in your cv, because they can see that, but more about your attitude, approach and why you’d fit the post they are offering. You’ll need to tailor them to each post you apply for.

this is where you review the job spec and give a bit of info about where your experience matches what they're looking for.

I would second adopt's post. It's where you show that you have done a bit of research about the company or org you are applying to, and read and understood the job description. Share why you are interested in this particular job and why you would be a great fit for it. You need a separate one for every job as it must be tailored to the job. It is often what makes you stand out as many cvs are very similar
