£1,800 universal credit for the unemployed AIBU ???

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of sympathy for people that has lost their jobs due to COVID-19. BUT.....just announced now...a family of 2 children out of work can now claim £1,800 worth of universal credit WHILE AS a registered nurse after paying all taxes, parking fee and pension comes home with £1,700 on a good month. That's with enhancements of weekend and night working. Even less so for HCA and other support staff. Maybe we should all go home and isolate..THOUGHTS,????

Well one this is a temporary measure and 2 no one is saying nhs staff are not important and deserving of a pay rise but you are basically saying other people should get less rather than you getting more which isnt right either.

I don't think it is very well thought out, DP is apparently a key worker in an electronic store, they are out the door with sales, at risk of catching the virus, yet the goverment are offering to pay 80% of his wage to his employer, so that get workers at 20% cost.
They should have offered workers 20% on top of their wage.

For a lot of people that would be a tiny proportion of their usual income. In expensive areas that wouldn’t even cover rent. It’s not a lot of money.

Struggling to see the issue? They’re not choosing to ‘sit on their arses’ the government is stepping in to provide a safety net for those whose income has disappeared over night due to this unprecedented event.

That’ll be with housing costs at the highest rate for areas like London not the standard £450pm 3 bed here. It’s roughly £270 for first n £230 for the second and £500 for a couple before any disability/limited work groups.

Pre CV wouldn't a nurse with 2 kids, a SAHP and 1.7k pm would get tax credits/UC top up?

I think it’s brilliant for the people who’ve lost their income through no fault of their own, but will still be a lot less than a lot of people are used to earning.

I do think though that in these emergency measures, there should be additional money for all nhs workers who are literally risking their lives to do their job. I don’t know how it would be funded (I don’t really know how any of it’s being funded) but some funding should be found!

No. The company would only get that it thet furlough their staff (eg they’re not working at all and are basically on a retainer until work starts up again). If he’s working the company won’t be getting anything for him

They will be worrying what the fuck they’re going to do when this is over and business confidence is still low, probably still reeling from losing their jobs and many will be wondering how they will meet financial obligations if this is lower than their previous pay. I think you’re quite mean spirited.

They would only get this much under certain circumstances like they have a few kids or high rent or a disabled child or someone unable to work because of illness. A single parent with one child in council rented accommodation would get no where near that.
